Looking at these now, seen a few and they look like very good buys. They're all high-milers, but its a Mercedes so that doesn't bother me even slightly.

Anyone know much about them? Saw one today that was a rustbox (never been polished or protected), so I steered clear of it even though it had 25 dealer stamps :)

Saw a lovely silver saloon though, poverty spec (cloth seats etc), but good solid car underneath. £4500

Blimey. I've just been offered the following:

E200 Avant-garde, auto, purple metallic, mint condition (and I'm guaranteed of that), brabus wheels and nice (but not maxxed) body kit, with some kind of super-duper stereo

£5500

And the mileage? 36k - for a 1998 car. This from a mate of a mate - and its 100% trustworthy.

Think I'll be having that then....

Yeah, Pics!

Sounds like a good price Tom, older German cars aren't as expensive as you would think, particularly "common/popular" ones.

My M Roadster is probably only worth ~£12000, but it's a 1998 car too. Not bad considering it cost over £40k back in 1998.

If you can get a well maintained German car, they can be a right steal.

Bite his hand off tbh. They were still building well-engineered Mercs back in '98. It'll be a slow, but bulletproof.

The only thing that worries me really is the rust problem, which is well documented on these cars. I intend to run this car literally into the ground. I have spent far too much time and money on cars this year, and its starting to do my head in. It depresses me when I think how much money I spent on the TVR.

Oh well, can't have your cake and eat it!

I'd watch buying a Merc, especially after having a TVR. Falling asleep at the wheel is a well documented problem with them, just because they are so fucking boring to drive. You'd be far better off finding a 5-series Touring.....just as well engineered (me dad's old 525td is still going strong with 200k + on the clock), faster and much better to drive. Slightly less space in the boot, but seeing as you're considering a saloon it really can't be at the top of your list of priorities. It'll sound much MUCH better as well.

heh point taken, but after 8 months driving around in a frantic car from hell, I want something boring :)

Will be nice to once again climb into a car that doesn't rip the wallet from my clammy hands every time I start it up :D

No car is expensive to run once you've owned a TVR :D
