Merc Duel Wield Weapons

Me and the wife have just started up a pair of Highlander Slash Mercs and although i have done a bit of reading up on it i can't make up my mind on what is best?

Most people seem to advocate the slow heavy damage main weapon and quicker less damage left hand weapon.

I've also read that having 2 quick weapons is better as the more hits you make due to increased weapon speed the more chance of your left hand weapon landing too.

With the latter in mind would it not also be possible to have a quick main hand weapon and a slower higher damage left hand weapon. This on paper seems to be the best one but i dont know how speed affects the left hang swings and duel wield styles.

Any help would be appreciated :).

In rvr from now on i will use 2 jambiyas vs hibs and a bastard sword+jambiya vs mids i am thinking of due to mids slash resists, use 2 equal speed weaps i guess,in pve it's different though you do not have pbt stopping the mainhand hit whereas in rvr you do so you need fastest weaps you got really. As far as i know mainhand is always slower than lefthand i might be wrong though. With capped quick and jambiyas i am hitting fairly fast in rvr for a highlander, they are great getting through that stupid pbt hibs have.

I see your point about RVR and needing the quickest weaps possible. We are both only level 5 at the moment so i am talking purely PvE. If the mainhand swings slowest then i'd have thought it would be best to have a quick weap in it. I don't understand how speed effects the offhand swing though, as it doesnt hit all the time anyway would it not be a good idea to have a nice heavy damage weapon?

Yeah in pve it's better, you will hit a lot more with both at lv 50 i have 65 dw+reflexes 1 which is 71 dw=about 70% chance to hit both weaps seems more though....

Maybe use a slow mainhander at low lvs until your dw gets in the 40s.

Have fun with them and good to see you not doing an inf:D

Btw higher your dw less chance target evades and blocks:)

Same weapons all the way I would say. Pairs of Daggers, Shortswords, Handaxes, Jambiyas (at high levels if you've got the money).

Is it just the speed that matters if having the same weaps? Cos i like using an axe as well as a sword cos it looks good :). I'll keep the same weaps (or same speed if it doesnt matter) unless i get a nice drop. I'm gonna be keeping DW maxed as i go along with rest in slash and a few in parry when i have leftovers.

It's the speed that counts. When you attack, the game checks the speed of your weapons, and usually the slower one is more likely to land the hit, which means using a slow main hand weapon will result in a slower overall attack speed. Same speed on both hands is the only way to go in my opinion. Whenever I use a bastard sword or sabre I feel that my attack rhythm gets totally messed up, whereas a pair of jambiyas works very very well.

Considering speccing, I would rather keep slash maxed than DW, but have a look at your styles.

Be warned that lower the dw target will evade/block you more.... the lv50 dw style i find good vs assasins/support classes/casters as it hits harder than diamond slash sometimes with less end cost and since these targets can't hit you back for much it's a good style to do on them.:D

I was mainly thinking of speccing while leveling up and giving slash preference over dw whenever you are short on points pre level 40.
