hiya!
just a tiny question....what is the best way a mentalist can use his pet? because so far it seems pretty dumb to me.... the moment i target another creature, my spell then tries to that the one i want my pet to attack, and my pet is then released....
doesn't make any sense to me...
can anyone explain to me

There is a fix in the next patch.. end of July. Or you can connect to the test server Gorre, which is up btw.. you just can't get the client from anywhere.

Yep, the charm is considered to be very much broken in 1.45, but even in the latest patches Mythic are still working on it.
See http://www.mypetmage.com for the most up to date information regarding the mentalist charm and what changes are being made to it.

Originally, this charm was intended by Mythic to be an alternative form of crowd control for the mentalist - they would charm the adds and then use them against the other creatures the group were fighting. But due to the fact that when in groups people are rarely fighting easily charmable mobs (attempting to charm red/purple creatures will most likely result in your swift death :p) and the fact that you get no experience for a recently charmed creature, meant that it is safer and more worthwhile to mez the add instead.

Personally, I am mana specced and so never use my charm for fighting anyway (although you will often see me running about Hibernia with a leprechaun or a primrose in tow for the sheer heck of it :D). From what I have seen and heard though, the light specced mentalist is strong enough without the need for a pet.

Well.. I have a light/mana mentalist.. I want to get a decent manabanana as well as charm a middy sprit warrior and use it.. you never guess against who...

Until the next patch, the main thing that makes a Mentalist have a pet is when a Bard cancells their power regen buffs with a low level song. :p

The only good use of pets is in large battles where there are neutral mobs near. Charm mob, send after enemy, once the enemy hit once, release, get another pet, release, ad nauseam. Problem is, if you send blue/yellow pets to blue/yellow opponents, it's more time-effective to nuke/DoT them yourself.

Some ments are known to send blue pets against greys, but I find this poor sport.
