Hi I've rcently come into some spare ram, I have 2 memory cards with 512meg of corsair pc3200 ram on each .
I had one already fitted with no previous problems, I fitted the spare and I got a huge drop in 3dmarks and some really nasty distorsion in 3d games/programs etc I also noticed a couple of times my PC loaded up in a very low colour mode and my gfx card wasnt listed in the device mamager, just "vga compatible" was writen where my card name usually is .
I first suspected the gfx card having issues, so I reffited it and done a fresh install of drivers, including my agp controller and direct 3d .
On no improvemnt I started working back on the changes I'd made, I first removed one of the memory cards and found things were back to and everything was running fine, I replaced this with the other memory card and found everything still ran fine .
I fitted them both again and this time my monitor wont even switch on when I start my pc, this happened a couple of times on installing them both last time, I tried moving them to different slots in my pc but this made no change .
Now I know some may think of that old saying that goes something like "if it aint broke dont fix it" but the thing is I cant stand to see £160's worth of ram sitting on the shelf collecting dust, I'd really like to use it but I've run out of idea's as to why it wont work .
My motherboard manual says it will support up to 3gig of ram so I dont think thats a problem .
I did remove the power cable when installing and removing the memory .
The stats for my system are as follows:
motherboard - Asus A7S333 (SiS 745 chipset)
gfx card - Asus V8460 (gf4 ti4600)
psu - 350watt enermax
Memory - 2 x 512meg corsair pc3200
cpu - amd 2200+ thoroughbred core
Monitors a cheap unknown one from pc world
I have means of checking voltages, temperatures, bios revisions etc if it would make any difference .
Any help would be greatfully received, thanks
