BUT, if you bought an unofficial product for say £15, then not long after you bought it, it stopped working (talking from experiance) then u either decide to buy an unoficial one, and risk it been shitty, and breaking easily, or you buy an official one, with guarentee etc
Also it is better. As instead of using blocks to fill it, it uses the specific ammount of space (kb). So if a game doesnt use much space, on the old cards, it would have had to use a full block, but the new ones allow it to take only the needed space. This makes it cheaper as you don't have to buy a new card as often as there aint no blocks to fill.
Iirc the story of the "no more non standard memory cards" began when sony realised that they were getting beaten silly by everybody and losing a revenue stream because of it.
So for the PS2 they built in some proprietry shite which is part of the reason why you can't save PS1 games onto PS2 memcards.
Whatever you do never ever go near the data conpression memory cards from companies like datel,luckily i never bought one but my mate had one and the results are horrible,stick to offical ones.
