Hey everyone.

I haven't played DAoC for about 10 months but i've been walking around thinking of asking how everything was going. I kinda miss the great friendships and the hilarious chats you sometimes bumped into, and of course the great raids / events there were.
The best time in DAoC was when everything was unexplored. What I remember the most about DAoC was back in, what I like to call it, the Yggdra Forest days. Where you'd get zerged by a billion albs or hibs. Or sometimes just get smashed by Psi the sorcerer or Spice, a ranger and when lucky, get helped by a hib/alb and just emote with him and then leave peacefully. Ah the memories... ;>

Now I was thinking.. is it any good to start playing again, has ToA brought many more things to look at and experience? What about the overpoweredness of certain classes/races? Is there still many people playing?

Last I want to say hello to all the old members of Sons of Nidhug, Shadow's of Ragnarok and Call of Heimdal.

Hiya, i dont know u or i doubt i do, but regardless, TOA made game change quiet a bit, can say that a TOA:ed person easyily wins over a None TOA:ed person.

So you would have to get a TOA:sc, cost shitloads (most of the time).

And then there are MLs u need to get them done, pain in the arse imo, but they are really helpfull.

And for last i say there are a few OP classes in each realm, id like to call them the SI classes, atleast the Casters, the Meleers can be dealth with.

I remember the name Orlan from a long time ago in Sons of Nidhug - and Ive been in SoNs for 2.5 years hehe cant remember exactly which time period it was that i remember your name tho m8.

...and big lol at the "Yggdra Forest Days" haha loved going to the undead camp and killing or more often gettin killed :) never much fear of rvr in those days - no df, no bg's etc just everyone in frontiers of all levels hehe

Orlan you MUST remember Adrira ? wow now you got me reminiscing big time she was just such a really nice gm - I miss her a lot actually :(

Plz stop by our guild forums (www.nidhug.com - still quite new as we lost the old ones) if u get a mo and say hello :) - some of the old SoNs crowd still there and some piccies from the old days too. Svart is still kicking around and Grivne too, not many others from the old days tho. Do you remember Cwini, Rockford, Serdif, Illornnn or the double team of Baradour and Ossbull (they were badger mad rofl) ?

They're not a pain in the arse if you don't insist on jumping into lava rivers! (Ok, ok, that's the last time I remind you, I promise. ;))

I think SI added some cool stuff but ToA is shit, really shit.

The game has no place for casual gamers now, where are before yuo could play a few times a week and have a laugh, get to 50, rvr and do some raids for uber drops.

Now its impossible to find a group/make a group that lasts for more than 2 hours so casual players are fucked.

And forget about camping arties, doing ML raids or farming scrolls/plats to buy scrolls if your a casual player.

The game is shit now imo, too much time for no reward.

They should do away with the L1 to 50 altogether now as no new players are starting in the game, only people who already have L50's.

I think that the NF beta is a laugh, get a toon sorted with in an hour with decent RAs and items, if you dont like the toon, roll another...

lmao.... Says the RR2 SB.

Listen, the game is still good - Just requires a bit more patience, once MLs are complete [ML10 shaman \o/] [ML10 - final ML - master level] and you've got a ToA suit [All will be screwed by Catacombes (next expan)] it's pretty cool still ^_^ still have loads of laughs. [ML5/6 = scary]

Try it again, you could have fun. I give RvR is harder now, but it's still cool.

I do remember some of those guys, Bluesky :)

I'm the "ebay'd" one, yes, but you probably remember me as Theiir or Snornig since we we're in the same guild for quite some time back in the good ol' days. ;)

Well, i'm having second thoughts about starting again. I was hoping it would be fun to start again, but all that money farming and ML shit just requires too much time if it's a MUST in RvR. I haven't got much time on my hands so it would take like 3 years for me to get a decent char. ;P Thanks for replying.

the game is a big flaming pile of cow shit now. if u can help it stay well away.i log in about once or twice a week, get zerged by 50 alb stealthers and / or just 100 'normal' albs then log out. i cannot stress how much bollocks this game sucks.

Despite ppl telling that game sucks - I find the game is good. About arties and what bad things they bring (arti campers, camp the spot and sell the arties at their cms), well there are solutions for that (make the arti pickable only once per player - a flag in character file stored in server) - I expect GOA to fix that asap.

I myself haven't yet much played in RVR (Ixoth is only RR3), but going to do it more in future - so no comment about which realm is more powerful and zerging (I guess there is always one realm more powerful than the other, so its really hard (I'd imagine) to find a balance between the three realms).

I agree, that game has changed, and for a casual player it might be hard to get group. During developing Ixoth char, I have had similar problems. Try to make friends. With a friendly attitude you get more respect, and get groups. Then add those nice persons you meet to your friend list, and ask in future to group with you. "Treat ppl as you expect them to treat you".

As a conclusion: If you don't like the game, there are always other games to play. Like EQ2, WoW and the like. Feel free to try those. I mean noone isn't forcing for you to play DAOC if you don't like the game. Play the game what you like to play :p

Um, I don't see that ever happening. First of all, it is Mythic and GOA who can do these kind of design changes to the game. And secondly, there has been no mention of anything even resembling your suggestion above, so I don't think there is a "fix" coming ASAP.

There _has_ been talk in threads in FH about that kind of fix. Sadly I concur thou that its something that isn't going to be fixed anytime soon.

That Equal account has certainly done the rounds, I had a friend who traded for that account when Equal was 46 and dinged him 50 before eventually trading him on again sometime later.

Good to see he is coming back though I liked that Kobbie :)

Heya Orlan, long time nosey!

To be perfectly honest there's not much point coming back just to chat. The game isn't bad per se, it's just a bit boring really. If you were thinking of coming back I'd wait for now and;

1. Check WoW when it comes out. It'll probably be full of jerks but will still have that "oooh" factor that DAoC used to. Besides, there will be loads of former DAoCers there, quite a few from Pryd too I would imagine (would be nice to see what they arrange on the boards, maybe everybody will move to the same server.. would be funny).

2. Have another look after DAoC Catacombs gets released here. There will be lots more PvE grouping and bit more of an "oooh" factor, with new gfx and new places.

Whatever you do, have fun matey and take care, nice to see you're out there.

If you got plenty of time to spend to make your char competitive in rvr, or if you just wanna do some pve, don't hesitate.

Count on spending 2 months or so on getting the stuff you need, doing ml:s, lvling artis etc.

Guess your healer would be the easiest toon to get equipped. Basically you just need 25% healing effectiveness, some %power, 10% casting speed, 25 dex cap, and ofc the usual stats/resists/+skills. Some piety cap and spell duration is nice too but not everything in the world.
Artis aren't as necessary for a healer as for any other class, even though there are a few must haves like egg of youth (egg ress) and whatever you like that givesyou 10% spell range. On other hand you need some quite expensive/hard to get drops.
You do need ml10 as a healer, getting there is a pain in the ass, prepare for that.

Also remember that you'll spend most of this time in the incredibly laggy TOA zones, for some strange reason GOA runs the mid TOA zones on a vic20, most of the time it's > 2 sec serverside lag unless you play on ungodly hours.

To summarize it, to be competitive in rvr, you have to do loads of pve, alternatively have 150-200p to spend on an equip.

But once you're there, it's neither better nor worse than before you left. Some annoying stuff fixed, some new introduced.
Casters are insanely overpowered now, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. 700+ nukes more or less constantly, 300(-300) is no more :)
A well played tank with the right set of RA:s still rips everything apart though, but as it's easier to play a caster, they rule now.

Yes game is still good if you like PvE... I've spent since ToA was released to get a merc to ML5, get a few artis, but in no way what you'd call toa'd up.
I have a daytime job and if you have that and a few interests on the side besides looking at your cpu screen, find another game or you'll have a feeling of someone constantly saying "Bend over son" in RvR.
It's not a game for the casual at all, spend 10 hours a day, sure it's doable, have 30 mins to 2 hours a day, maybe a few more on the weekends, dont bother tbh.
Also - Yggdra Forest Days... People were friendly mostly, now it "Gimme gimme gimme the ph4t l3wt you n00b biatch", all the fun and fuzz of finding a funny object is gone if you can't charge some gimp 100 plat for it
