A nightshade is more dangerous out of the box, and imo more fun to play long term.

though aranger can also be a great laugh, you will find yourself needing to complete more templates, specs, and MLs, and also gain more RRs to pick up the needed tools to compete with the top guns. i tend to find playing a ranger every now and again fun, but it gets old fast, and im soon back on my shade.

with a shade, a good template, good spec, and some practice, ML6 to be sure you are ready to have a blast.

Yeah, make a shade
The VN and sometimes FH whines about melee rangers is misleading.
They are not all powerful stealth gods who stalk the frontiers beating up poor assassins at will.
It takes an uber template and at least 5 RR's before you start to see results, and even then your targets will be mostly assassins, melee rangers are very poor against most visables.
Shades are much better consistant killers than melee rangers.

Well I'd say that shades are much easier to take a shot at... able to fight almost all the time, able to win most fights without using precious 15 mins timers...

Honestly I never played a shade beyond RR5 as my first char was a ranger and I got stuck with the timered IWIN abilities... And frankly without all those toys your free rps pre-rr5 on a ranger... So if your relatively new to the stealth world I'd definatly recommend a shade, simply because they are a lot easier from scratch to put up a decent fight with.

However it's my experience that in the long run if you kit out your ranger right and get a large amount of RR's to your name they are a lot of fun aswell, and frankly I'd presume that a high RR ranger with all the tools will beat an assasin any day... although that will most likely lead to 15 mins downtime. You get more tools to play with over time to pick up fights simulaniously. So if you like this timer reliable fotmness that takes a long time and a lot of effort to achive... then a ranger should be your choice.

I played both classes and tbh i find them equally enjoyable.

The thing that really annoys me with the NS is the lack of survivability. The class is designed for maximum output of front load damage, which in itself creates good fights but can also be as frustrating as hell when u being tackled by multiple targets. The amount of times ive heard myself say"if only i had another 20% Hits i could have taken them both!!"

A timered melee ranjer appealed to me for the survivability factor, the RAs and arti toys really mean you can keep going even when the odds are stacked and you have a good chance of escape if things are not going to plan.

I enjoy playing all stealth type classes so its all good to me..
