Ok I know this should go into hardware but im going to buy a new mouse tomorrow morning and i wondered what everyone used. Ive had a ms cordless mouse for ages but it seems pretty vague and its bloody big, plus uses lots of batteries.
Any suggestions? An optical one sounds good, but any make or model ?
I play mostly cs and DoD btw , in case you didnt know :)

My own personal experience of the M$ Opti Intellieye is that it is SHIT for playing games like CS.

I have had mine for 18 months and stopped using it for online play about 12 months ago and gone back to a ball mouse.

The sensitivity is really really crap - try doing a fast 180 turn on CS or going for a precise headshot - it's crap.

Lots of buttons and shit, but crap for FPS's.

I bought a MS Intellimouse Explorer... However i wanr you, you'd be better off getting it from Amazon or somewhere. They had it for ~£30 i think, but i thought with P+P at like £7, it would be no cheaper, so i went in to town...

Well Nottingham isn't really a small city, but i ended up paying £50 :eek6:
Had to get it from Game. Nowhere else had anything good, apart from the small Dixons on lister gate, which had a normal intellimouse(non ergenomic or whatever), for 40quid. I decided that if i bought the cheaper one, people would think i was a lefty, so i went back to game and payed £50...

However, on topic: The mouse rocks. Hell, X has good drivers for it, so it works better that alot of 3rd party mice. Thanks Bill, thank you for giving me a high quality mouse to use under Linux! :D

I used the mouse came with my PC for a year or so then bought the MS Basic wheel mouse... wow what a difference

I then got the optical mouse cos the basic mouse was to small for my hands :)

My MS Standard Mouse (ergonomic one without wheel) is now 7 years old and is still working brilliant with daily use

/edit Oh I got a wireless Intellimouse for work and always have problems with it falling asleep in the middle of use :(

If only the new MS Intellimouse corded had the same design as the wireless one :(

Does anyone know if the usb or ps2 port is best ?

Nps, USB is far better cos it's a damn sight smoother than a PS/2 port (3x the sample rate). Plus that and you can hot plug USB devices which is fucking handy, especially if like me you're running:

Mouse
Keyboard
Scanner
Digital Camera
Wacom Graphic Tablet
M$ Gamevoice
Potentially a printer soon too

All off of 4 USB ports.

I use a Mitsumi PS2 2 button ball mouse. It costs about 4 quid from dabs (if they even still do them).

It's the most accurate and smooth mouse I have ever used in my life, and it stands up to almighty beatings aswell. I'm comparing this to mice which cost up to about £40, using all the types of port available.

Couple this with a huge, soft, squishy, "mesh" mousematt (cost you about 1 quid), "PS2 Rate it" to 200Mhz and you have the most superb gaming setup I've used.

It's also symetrical so will work for left and right handed people.

Ok, it doesn't have a wheel, which would be nice for windows, but I can live without that.

Anyone that spends more than £10 on a mouse/matt combo is an imbecile, and anyone that NEEDS more than 2 buttons also falls into this category aswell.

Anyone who buys these "pro gamer" mouse matts is the greatest fucking tosser alive.

I have a 5 button IE Optical (£40) and an Everglide Gigantica mousemat (£13).

Pleased to meet ya :p

I could never use a mouse without a wheel, cos I use the wheel a hell of a lot, not only in windows but in games as well. Ditto the extra buttons, cos I have those bound to keys which is handy for general windows work (IE Thumb button = Enter).

And I use the mat cos it's good for gaming and the optical works well on it. AND it's good for years, unlike those shitty cloth mats, of which I have gone through countless amounts, before getting the Everglide.
