All,
I have a sound blaster live that doesn't support dolby 5.1, but the onboard sound does (ASUS A7V-266, C-Media CMI8738 - not a great soundcard, but it does 5.1). When i run Microsoft's own 6 speaker test, the appropriate outputs put out the correct sounds.
By this i mean, the first output is front left/right, the second output is rear left/right and the third output is centre/bass. Smashing, it works - i hear everything on the right channels.
But when i fire up Media Player with a DVD (such as Dolby's own DVD test disc, or The Matrix), i can only select stereo and dolby digital 5.1 is greyed out. Changing the speaker setup in Windows XP from "stereo" to "5.1 surround" doesn't change the setting in media player: it's still greyed out.
All the latest drivers for the sound card installed on Win XP Pro.
Seems weird MS's own 5.1 test is fine, but DVD's are all stereo.
Any help?
Gaz
