So the national...or is it inter?...celebration of May Day is coming, well, today.Already champagne etc at work, everyone getting ready to go out and drink, meet friends, celebrate and...

I'm betting not half, if evne that, know why :D

It's just ridiculous that old and new celebrations are either twisted or forgotten. And then turned, mostly, to "spend time with friends and family", when infact, that should be done whenever.

So we're left with partying. Which can also, be and usually is done, anytime also.

But! UK celebrating May Day or?(scratch that, you do :D)

So, just thought a thread was in order.

I think it's kinda nice that there are "designated" party times. That way there will be more people joining in and everybody gets in that special mood. :)

Dy the way in Sweden we celebrate April 30th too as it's our king's birthday. It's become a general "greet the spring" holiday so today we work 6 hours
and then go out and enjoy beer and company of friends and a day off tomorrow. :D

Yeah, it's a nice way to get alot of people celebrating the same time. But also, it's bad when people let only that time be the time when they contact you and such :)

By the by, origins of may day is very fun, chekc it out.

Wiccan and Celtic celebrate it as the day of fire, while other cultures simply a "start of summer"(where feb 1 is start of spring").

I think the oldest traditions would go to start of summer, maybe even loki in some way, as he was god of fire in some writings.

what a load of bullshit:/, as toh said its symbolism's are completely ignored and twisted as from an actual religious position (being Pagan/Wiccan or just celebrating sabats)

anyway.. it is a holiday but on first monday of may as someone said.
they erect some poles in some area's and do little jigs, such as Cornwall, and yes those words are suppose to invoke that thought:p

writing an assignment on Beltane (may day) actually. festival of fire and fertility, a little knowledge for your lunch time entertainment. I wont go into the details questioning celticity as cant be arsed:p
