Personallly, I love Max Payne.

Also, I do see a lot of hope for SP FPS's in the future, just look at RTCW, AVP2, MoH: Allied Assault, Duke Nukem Forever and Doom 3 to see what I mean.

Good point Dan.

Shame its slightly wrong since most of those will have multiplayer in them.

The SP part of the game is important but it limited and once I complete a game I don't tend to play it again. Like it or not but a games long term longevity is determinded by it multiplayer ability, would so many people still be playing HL is it wasn't for multiplayer mods like CS etc.

Conversely, you will only buy a few multiplayer oriented titles precisely cos they do take up so much time. Whereas you may well (certainly I will) buy several single player ones, finish them in a week and buy some more. You pay the same money however long they take to complete so the software companies will keep churning em out.

I've only ever bought one but most my other games have the ability to do multiplayer.

did anyone else have an annoying bug that caused the whole game to freeze if you died at certain points in the game that caused you to have to restart the whole game.

hmmmmm. 38 replies and only the 1st one was a remotely helpful suggestion :) Surely somebody must know a way to check fps?

May as well comment on the discussion thats been raised anyway, w.r.t. single player games. Personally I have gone back to my roots in the last few months, playing more single player in MP/cm2002/diablo2/qw frogbots than I do online games since I have lost my lpb connection. Nowadays I spend about 1-2 hours per week playing multiplayer games, solely 4v4 with my clan. Going back 1 or 2 years I would play upwards of 20hrs multiplayer a week (one week i played over 35hours according to CLQ, heh). So i think for players without access to fast connections multiplayer FPS arent quite so attractive - and also for those who can't be online much during peak gaming hours (I am rarely online between 6:30-9:30pm).

The games I am looking forward to most are by far single players games. I have no longing for the "next big thing" in multiplayer games, I am already satisfied with QW for online gaming. Serious Sam2, Duke4, Doom3, Civ3, C&C renegades, Unr2 are probably top of my wishlist (none of them for the multiplayer component). These are all sequels so I know rougly what to expect; there may very well be other new games coming out I will enjoy too.

Hmm well SS2 co-op I will of course play a bit, but thats not what most people think of in terms of traditional multiplayer (deathmatch) FPS.
