ok this is in for tomorrow (wednesday) and im still quite stuck .. so wondering if u can help me.
Here is the Introduction ;
2 students are discussing a problem that was set by their teacher to find the biggest value of the ratio area/perimeter for some triangles
1 students indicates that this was done with measurements of 40,60, and 80 which were given by the teacher but forgets to say what units were used and weather they were angles or sides
Task: Find the triangle which gives me biggest value of area/perimeter and find the other triangles sides and angles. I assume all sides are cm and all angles are degrees.
Righteo then i worked out that there are 20 different triangles
and worked out 2 were impossible because it came up with Sine value above 1 and i worked out that 1 other is impossible because you are just given the angles.
I've worked out the biggest triangle.
gonna be hard to draw on here so i'll give it my best shot
/ \ A
b / \ c
/ \

/ \
/C_____ B
a
Angle A = 60 Angle B = 80 Angle C = 40
side a = 107.7837084
side b = 122.5671109
side c = 80
(Note i was only given A=60 C=40 and c=80cm at the start of the question)
Ratio = area/perimeter = 4245.849267/310.3508193 = 13.7
So.. i have to find out:
1) why does this give me the biggest ratio
2) why do the numbers 40,60 and 80 give the biggest ratio
3) help lol
I know this is tricky to understand but any help wud be appreciated
