Everyone and his brother seems to be after playercrafted MP's before spellcrafting gets here..

Just curious, is there any particular reason why?

There is a plan to take over the whole world which requires people to gather player crafted masterpieces.

All those with player crafted masterpieces will join the High Council everyone else will be destroyed unless they own a glimmer strike ring. The High Council will rule these fortunate few with the rings & force them to make digestive biscuits. The slaves from the last event will be enslaved once more to make tea for the High Council to dunk their biscuits in.

whew.. I'm safe :D

gotta love /rand 100 = 97 :D
(and some poor guy in my group got 96 in that lotto :()

In answer to the question about masterpieces, the higher the quality of an item the more points you can imbue it with in spellcrafting - ie. a 100% quality item will be able to give you higher resists/skill pts/stats than a 95% quality item. I think the quality of the item also affects the effective AF, not that that matters that much for mages :p

Hmm.. figured the spellcrafting/quality would work like that, but still, i see ppl say they must stock up on masterpieces, behaving almost as if they couldn't be produced after SC gets released or something...

they'll be incredibly in demand when SC comes out, so I think most of those poor crafters who can make masterpieces will be so flooded with requests that they will /anon, /ignore all and /delete :p

Also masterpieces are rare, I heard that it's something like a 1 in 50 chance at 1000 skill points (correct me if I'm wrong).

While currently the demand is relatively low, people will try stock up so that when demand skyrockets they won't have to pay 1mp per masterpiece

That's right, a 2% chance to make a 100% quality item, and then an even (16.33%) chance to make between 94 and 99%. I don't really know what you mean by "stocking up" on masterpiece weapons, because I personally have never made one, and I've only made two 99% arcanite weapons so far - both of which were for my guild.

The thread was about the apparent increase in demand for masterpiece items before SC comes in - I was paraphrasing somewhat :p

Just meant that people are probably trying to get them before SC comes out because when SC comes out the demand will be much higher (imo).

Well, my advice to anyone who has their heart set on a masterpiece weapon isn't to order now "before the rush", it's just to save up as much money as they possibly can. Getting a masterpiece isn't difficult, it's just boring and it costs a fortune. As for weapons, Hibernia now has eight legendary weaponsmiths - there will always be someone around to take your order, as long as you can pay. ;)

From an armourcrafter's point of view:

I've read about US server and making a full set of AF 102 scale is an 11 hrs crafting session.... Of course if you are lucky it can go way faster but also if you are unlucky it can take alot longer. How many full MP sets you think a crafter will do before he/she grews tired of the whole thing?

Price for a full set is often based on 13.5-15x price of the resources to make a full set. 99% 3-4x and 98% 2-3x.
This is probably the priceformulas I will use too...

Some crafters go for a fixed price and then charge for the number of retries it takes to make a MP. Imo that's unfair, since someone might get a full MP suite for 10PP whilest another may have to pay 50PP.
