Mask Scent.. does it work?

Read a fair bit about this being a good way to get scouting xp once you obtain explore 3. Just find a nest of aggro red cons, put it on, and strafe about.
I have also heard it's been nerfed recently.
Does it still work at all? I have explore 3 and not once have I managed to get any xp from using it. I get detected straightaway once I enter range of the creature.
After breezing through trapping and doing ok with survival I was hoping this tactic would get me to master scout fairly soon.

Pre-nerf, as soon as you were detected you could put it back on.. therefore you basically just got shedloads of scout XP just wandering around Lok continually spamming /maskscent.

It's probably still the quickest way of getting scout XP, but its now a lot slower than it was before.

It does work, but it was nerfed in the first week of release as the remask timer was too short. Now it takes 1 minute after being discovered to be able to remask your scent.

Mask scent at low level of the skill will only work against things like kreetles ets, at lvl 3 it will work against tougher opponents like sevorts and diseased bocats and crazed durnies.

The scent works on a proximity scale, there are 2 ranges at which a creature can detect you, if you or an aggro critter cross the threshold into another range (think its 5-30-50 yards, not certain tho) then the mask-scent is retested.

At Explore 2 i got 106 xp per kreetle when mask scent worked.

At Explore 3 i got the same from sevorts.

Mask scent is NEVER 100%, even at Explore 4 kreetles sometimes detect me, there is always a chance of detection.

Also, i believe that Wookies are slightly better with masking their scent, although this is only a hunch, i cant prove it.

It can be confusing to know what creature to target with mask scent as their threat level that is displayed is based on your weapon skill, not on your maskscent ability.

MS only works on red mobs.
No yellow mobs can be in range or MS will feck up.

An easy way to get scout xp from MS:

Locate a lair of red mobs like Sentry Hermit Spiders on Naboo (those are good coz they also got really low HP)

Then as u approach the lair, at 70-80 meters, put up your maskscent. Then WALK (hold shift key) towards the lair, you will now get xp from maskscent and after that u can kill em all and run to next lair.

(If u waypoint 2 lairs, u can just run between them as long as u need)

Make macros on everything and just hammer your keys, u will get very fast xp (target, shot, harvest- repeat). I did get 20k per hour using this technique back when I did my boring scout xp (and this was after the big MS nerf)

Dunno if they have nerfed it even more since then, but it worked good for me
