Marmite Miners

So, being one of those big puff miners who's scared of confrontation (at the moment) - got a question:

There's an asteroid belt in my home system, no pirates blah blah. To be profitable some people say that I need to get the hell out of there and go and find some proper 'roids.

However, some people say it's not worth the hassle and you can safely build up a small nest-egg mining without getting shot at in your local system....

??? Whadayya reckon peeps ???

Well on the day after release I made 1.1 million isk mining Arkonor for about 4 hours in a 0.0 security system. Only prob is that all the Ark hotspots have been mostly mined out and you could end up searching for days trying to find another.

I then started mining bistot but because the market is screwed that turned out to be a complete waste of time.

I'd say stick with omber in a 1.0 system if you can. Nice and safe and you can read a book while you're doing it. Slow steady cash flow is usually better than risky get rich quick schemes, but will probably end up bored to tears :(

Go to a 0.6 system, you can find Gneiss and other stuff in there. In a system with about 5+ belts, only 3-4 will have pirates in when you warp there. You can usually get a full hold before they arrive.

Don't try mining these rocks with anything less than an imicus, the noob ships just can't carry enough to make it worthwhile.
