The TAC servers think Skod_C2C is C&H when it's supposed to be CTF. Also Meat Grinder_F&R needs updating to the new version.

Can someone fix it please.

And another thing

Could you please remove all the TDM maps from the rotation or reinstate map voting cause those maps are laggy as hell.

Also on Sunday the 7th I witnessed the server reset at least 5 times!!! Not being able to stop laggy maps like the ones mentioned before probably didn't help.

And, could we please have some more regular players made up to Admin. Most of the old list of TAC Admins are inactives or infrequent.

TAC attracts Team Killers more than other mods because players always spawn in the base. Merely disabling team damage does little to solve the problem. Another favourite trick is killing team APCs as they leave the base, APC dumping and disking team mates onto the deadly ground below. Great fun for the retard doing it, no fun at all for the other 15 people on the server :(

Nor does the Vote to Kick option work all the time. TAC base which uses BWAdmin for it's Admin system, misreports the vote results. Often reporting the the votes for as zero even when the vote instigator has obviously voted yes in favour of his own vote!!!

We need more Admins please, [SPAM]Sledge can't be expected to do all the work...

Yeah I noticed TAC server 1 fucks up some nights, once it starts crashing it just can't stop it's self.

I kinda like the TDM maps but a return to everyone being able to vote would be ideal.

Can we have a custom TAC server as Onadeathwish and Co. have released yet more maps and the current servers have far to big a rotation as it is, and there both full most evenings.

Could use an extra pair of hands admin'in.

I agree that the map rotation is far too big, we could have different rotations on both servers. The second server could be "custom" if there are enough good new maps around. Can you give me a list of maps you'd like to see, both classic and custom?

There are only 3 TDM maps in the rotation, 1 is marked average, 2 are marked unpopular. That means they shouldn't be coming up all that much. You do need a way to change the map, I removed it as it allowed you to change to any map, non-TAC included. I'll have another look.

Thanks Crunchy, I'll get working on a list post it here and then other viewers can slate it :D I think having different rotations on the 2 servers is worth a try too...

Here are my suggestions. Feel free to argue / pick at / rip it to pieces.

MAP VOTING

Please re-instate it once you can limit it's range to TAC maps only. Obviously BOTH servers should have votable access to ALL currently available TAC maps.

CLASSIC SERVER

For the CLASSIC server I have selected only from the 24 original maps included with TAC 1.3. The order is very loosely based on the CLQ top Tribes TAC levels with a bias towards old favourites :D

CUSTOM SERVER

For the CUSTOM server I think you may as well set all the new maps as very popular, and use the CLASSIC map list with all the maps demoted one level. eg. verypopular becomes popular, popular becomes average and so on.

ROTATION STRING (for both servers)

Excerpt from serverinstallation_maprotation.html TAC 1.3 manual "$TAC::MRratioString allows you to choose what map rating will be played when $TAC::MRratioString="1 1 2 4"; This will play two verypopular maps, then one popular map, then one unpopular map. It will then start again."

Me sulk Semi.... never ;) For arguments sake though I'll agree with everything you've said so far.

We will however need the latest maps from Ona's map page to fill out the second server although when I was on Dogbreath6, Graveyard_C&H had a bug in that the central objectives turrets didn't work, dunno if it's been fixed.

I've heard a rumour that OnaDeathwish's maps will be hosted on a brand new website real soon ;)

Until then, I'll see if I can coax him into emailing them directly to me then I'll post them on the [SPAM] site with a link to them from here. A lot of those new maps are at the beta stage, so any feedback you can give OnaDeathwish, I'm sure he'd appreciate. If you need his email, let me know.

Nice maplist cheers. The ratio string we have on the servers atm:

The maps turn up as follows:
Very popular 40%
Popular 30%
Average 20%
Unpopular 10%

This seems reasonable, yours is similar but you have 1 more very popular and popular in the rotation.

Any ideas why the server is crashing? Is it a particular map? Is it the mod? IIRC there was a problem where if someone flew too close to a base a barrage of rockets are fired and it could overload the server.

It can happen on any of the lagier maps, first you get lag, then some more, then loads and finally it crashes. If I remember right we had this or a similar problem before and Poker found the server had a bad file on it. That might explain why only one server goes down and not the machine.

Servers have to do more work when firing automated rockets that seek (eg. the rocket turrets which surround TAC team bases). I suppose if an APC were to go close to a point where more than one automated defense acquired a lock, this would create a sudden high demand upon the server to calculate multiple rocket trajectories.

On TAC team bases, most rocket turrets are paired. So if you move within range of one pair of turrets you get hit with two rockets. Naturally, if you move within range of two pairs, you get hit with four rockets and so on.

As any experienced TAC player knows, base rape in TAC is a pointless tactic (quite literally). Some new players do try to attack the opposing teams base, but after two or three attempts they soon learn the error of their ways.

The problem tends to arise when maps either require teams to move within the range of automated defenses (eg HALO) or because of frantic evasive action when pilots become disorientated and drift their APC into range (eg JustHoldit or IceFusion). Other problems arise when FLPCs are used, because of their smoke trails and high speed. And also when complex Line of sight occurs (eg. multiple APCs and players within visible range such as TDM maps).

Some people might dismiss my theories as BullShit. But ask any webmaster who has a website with high CGI (eg server side) demand what happens to the server's performance and you can easily equate that to what happens to a TAC server.

Yes, TAC does cause the problem in general. Maps like HALO, JustHoldit, IceFusion, Altitude, Sunny_Days and all the TDM maps all cause some or all of the problems I've listed.

I realise it is not finacially feasable for BarrysWorld to dedicate a single machine to run as a TAC server only. Perhaps the TAC servers should be run on machines with very low demand from the other games running on them?

The ability to vote for another map was a godsend when the boring maps rolled into play, without this having to play them out makes the game annoying.
Another thing we do need and as soon as possible in my opinion is more admins,the amount of times a tk`er has made an appearance and for some unknown reason fails to be kicked through the vote,we have no one to fall back on,a trick often used is for the offending person to drop just before the vote is complete and then rejoin afterwards.PLEASE PLEASE we need more ADMINS
