Mana chanter exping with Focus shield question- Which pet to use

I don't know if the damage shields stack well
Should i use The Ally or compatrot

Does the Compatrots shield stack with the focus one well.
I know the ally Evades making it less effective

Damage shields dont stack. If you cast your normal damage shield on it and then focus pull, your damage will be something like (Normal + Focus) / 2 .

And the compatriots "self damage shield" is actually self armor buff (bug). Both have about same amount of hitpoints.

I pulled skeg with ally and killed him.

Went back later pulled him with compatriot and died.

Me and the same bard both times nothing different at all.

I think ally has better melee skills than the compatriot so gives out more damage and gets hit more but with buffs the hp difference aint that much.

Doubt it matters much with highlvl buffs... Cons=more abs and atleast on cabalist amber pet, a clerics/friars baseline cons buff overwrites the pets self-cons buff.

I've killed Skeg plenty of times with a compatriot, so i can't understand why you died with it.

And the damage from a lvl 44 pet on a 70+ mob? you think it's gonna make ANY difference?

And how does the ally get hit more? The mob suddenly attacks faster or something? (lol)

All the AF shield will do is that the pet takes less damage, a 70+ mob hits 99% of the times anyway.

The reason you died is because you probably did something wrong.

Lucradan used the ally without problems but we asked, "what happens if you used the compatriot?" and he did the same pull with the compatriot.....

...Rezz lucradan please someone....

Teador is right, you others are wrong - The compatriot has his own AF-shield, who looks like a dmgshield. DO NOT USE baseline damageshield on the pet, never - unless you wont be using the focusshield.

When buffing a pet with con, it raises the pet's armor aborbation -This is why it can tank such high mobs. Using conbuff on players will only grant in higher hitpoints, the pet's hp remains the same - though it's abs% increases instead

I use the ally when im not focuspulling, the ally hits very fast so its easy for him to take agro than it is for mistur Compatriot.

No big difference between Compatriot and Ally. I use Comp because it is slightly tougher (when unbuffed) and doesn't evade.

Ally is best if you are grouped with a druid/bard, why? because the AF shield the compatriot casts is not as good as the bard/druid one since pets have no cap and it adds alot.

Ally is the evading one too, so if u want it to get hit u better use comp.

Of course if u are solo compatriot would be best.

Hi..nice question and i do get questions in game a lot from new chanters...I always use comp if solo...if grouped with a druid who has good spec buffs i use the ally...otherwise the comp is a wiser choice imho...and actually ive killed skaeg using both.. the best way for you is to try it yourself..just make sure you got a rezzer close Hope ive been of help.

i've kinda put together what you guys have said hopefully(correct me if i'm wrong)

Soloing- Use Compatriot - Self AF buff will reduce damage to him and he will not evade any of the mobs attacks

Grouping- Use Ally - Druid baseline buff is better than the comps and has more HPs?

bah i'm only 24 atm so i haven't tried any lvl70 mobs (well i did once but it didn't work well)

Also guys, Compatriot is the best pet when focus pulling.

4 reasons:

It's a tank pet, Ally is the Healer pet, therefore Compatriot is more suitable for being hit and does more damage.

Has higher HP.

Doesn't evade and therefore more effective for the mana usage.

Doesn't cast that annoying HoT

I prefer using the Compatriot, have used it always, and will use it since I have found it more successful

When the hot buffs die the pet always stops to renew them, on more than one occasion while at 4 fin the pet stayed in the pop zone and just stood there casting the buff and more fins agroed it, suddenly you're fighting against 7-8 fins instead of 3-4.

Another good reason to use tank pet > heal pet imo
