Making Audio CDs from MP3s

I had some software a long time back, but ever since I got a Rio MP3 player from the US a few years back its been ages since I wanted to make my own audio CD.

Anyhow, my son wants a "best of" CD for his portable player, so can anyone recommend a bit of software, preferably free, that combines MP3s into a regular audio CD.

TIA

MusicMatch may be big, bulky and look like an XP love child but it does this, and a fine job it does too, imo. All the grumpy, mumpy's will disagree on here, but i'd suggest having a fumble with its tumble, works well if you ask me.

I would hoppe you don't use it to grab MP3s though... It uses a nasty Xing codec, which gives a poor sound...

I'd recommend ExactAudioCopy for grabbing mp3s.

Doesn't Nero do it? Or am i thinking of the wrong thing?

Just make an audio Cd and drag the mp3s into the other window

No. I don't believe CDplayers can read mp3s. The reason why CDs can only hold a relativly small number of tracks(despite having a capacity of 650mb) is because they store music in plain wav format. Wavefiles are usually ~45mbs, so compressed formats like MP3s are what people store on their HDs.

God, i said something intelligant :)

no, i don't use Musicmatch to encode, i use the Lame codec.

and nero can make audio cds... just select, um, Audio CD when it pops up the dialog box at the start and it'll convert all the mp3's properly by itself... nero - The Best Burning App available

Nero is ok, but it does have trouble with some MP3s. It tends to cut them short. It does have v. good filters though.

Let me get this straight - you want some software to turn MP3 into .wav/.cda, which can then be burned to a CD?

What's wrong with Winamp?
