Major routing problems

This is not an isp problem. There is a major problem connecting from the UK to the opentransit network. This started at about 1900hrs last night (26-11-02) and is still happening today.

This is using a freeserve isdn connection

From investigations it appears that the only UK network not to have problems routing to opentransit is the main BT network.

This is using a BT pay as you go connection

NTL users are having the same problem
Demon users are having the same problem
Non UK players who route thru the UK are having the same problem.
In fact any user who isnt using the main BT network is having the same problem.

The game is virtually unplayable. 3 to 20 seconds of lag and LD's

There is nothing our individual isp can (or will) do to rectify this problem.

GOA - get your fingers out and sort this please as you are the only people in a position to do so.

(I'm not even going to suggest that this is a plot hatched up between BT and France telecom to knacker any non BT isps - coz that sort of thing could never happen !!!)

People in holland have had the same problem for over 3 weeks now. Everything is routed via newyork which gets me about 700ms ping times :(

Im on a PIPEX XTREME ADSL connection and I never have lag, ever except when there are over say 40 players present.

Are people reporting this on Right Now and submitting the trace logs? It would help GOA to pinpoint the problem and maybe sort it out.

was having insane lag last night, few people in guild seemed to be having anyone, few people i spoke to at all, when i logged due to it being impossible to even craft (yeah, THAT bad) i pinged excalibur server, then a few others.

excal averaged a 1475ms ping, was like that for hours, just watched a film instead, hope it's not like that later... i was having to wait up to 10 seconds for each spell to cast, wasnt worth risking it.

pinged some random servers all over the place after excalibur, not just daoc one's, but all sorts, all were fine, just the daoc related one's got me vast ping... but since it wasnt everyone experianceing it, i thought it was my isp being shit :p, guess not. and i can imagine most people being on BT, so many wont have had this prob

and no, i am not on BT.

I didn't have any lag yesterday, i was even playing 3 accounts at the same time (yeah officially) and on one connection.
Seems that telenet has one benifit after all.

Doh I must say that only played from 8 o' clock PM till 11 PM. I don't know for the rest of te day.

Logging in took more time then ever i think but in ingame i didn't notice any difference.

A friend who has ADSL (skynet) had major lagg problems doh

Sorry for the rest off ya , gonna think to ya while I level :(

no point, happend to me 3 weeks ago and GOA said

"its not our problem, sort it with your ISP"

and they are right, it isnt there problem.

Wrong - If this was one particular ISP then it would not be GOA's problem - but it is any ISP which doesnt connect from the UK to opentransit via the main BT network.

All other networks are falling over when they connect to opentransit. As a member of the general public, opentransit wont even give you the time of day. The only people who can kick arses at opentransit are GOA

This IS GOA's problem - whatever they may say.

Am also having major lag issues and currently have ping of over 2000ms from the opentransit network!!!!.

This is making the game virtually unplayable at the moment, particularly disappointing as I have just returned to DAOC after a 2 month break :(.

I am going to post a complaint to rightnow and hope that others experiencing this problem will do the same.

Precisely...our ISPs are working fine except when they try to connect to opentransit which is a French telecom company. BT, Freeserve and some of the others can't do squat about it but GOA should look into it themselves and try and sort something out as it is their responsibility to ensure a good connection on the continental side...or something. I'm tired and confused at the moment but I know its not my ISP's problem.

Thought I should throw my hat into the ring.

I am on a Freeserve Dial-Up.

I have an emmense amount of lag, it started about 8pm on the 26th of November.

If you want me to download ping plotter, and show you the exact same problem as everyone else, I will.

Well wouldnt it be your local provider that buys the upstream over the opentransit network.

As long as their gateway is working it is not GOA's problem.
GOA does not buy that bandwidth its your isp that is buying it so its their problem

So every ISP just happens to be suffering from the same problem?

Can I access the internet - yes
Can I access available internet services - yes

My ISP's service is working properly

Can I access GOA's gaming service - Yes
Can I use GOA's gaming service as intended - No

GOA's service is not working properly.

I pay my internet provider for a service. This service works as intended.

I have contacted my ISP and they have done all they can to help.

I have contacted France Telecom but im not holding my breath for a reply.

Contacting GOA is virtually impossible apart from getright - which may or may not get a response.

It is now over 20 hours since this problem started yet there is no official acknowledgement of the problem nor how long it will take to sort out. Not acceptable.

My isp is totaly uneffected (cant do a trace now cuase i am at work)

Well opentransit seems to be an UK/main land connection so you will have the same problem on all uk isp's using that pipe.

You probebly cant reach a whole bunch of things hosted on mainland europe.

opentransit is owend by france telecom.
so this problem is way out of there hands

BTW you might wanne check this
http://www.internettrafficreport.com/europe.htm
Look at the graphs at the end of the page, seems like you are blaming GOA for some major backbone outage

this has been even more of a shame since, to be honest, the service on the daoc servers has lately been very good for months, there was AWFUL lag in the beginning, but as far as i saw, it actually got sorted, hope it's not gonna start regular again, if it's just one night then fine, but if it goes like it was before with solid weeks of it... :(

let's hope goa sort it back to how it's been recently, they've actually been doing a fairly good job :).

Anyone had a response from GOA yet?

Has been like this for almost 24 hours now :( permanent in-game red ping with a good 10 second delay on anything I try to do...

Im also having the same problem :(

im going to give it 3 days to be sorted out and then im canceling ma daoc account , only just got back to playing it too.

It may not be goa's fault but they make me sooooo angry when they dont mention it at all.

my friend is also in the same boat makes me wonder how many people goa will lose if nothing gets done about it.

btw im on freeserve dial up.

Not been this angry since some scummy git decided to dos the servers for a few days.

well pinged it now at home, 50 pings averaging 1175ms to excal, pinged it at work half an hour ago who are on a businessserve.plc internet account (businessserve are linked directly into the bt network) and had a ping over 50 pings averaging 182ms, both are 56k, and are only two miles apart

my isp here at home is on a different network from bt, it's on kingston (the only one you can get for internet just where i live without paying huge phone bills because were not on the bt network, my work can afford them perhaps, but i'm not gonna).

it's gonna be unplayable for me tonight too, this is irritating. not so much the thing itself since its only just happened and may not last long, but it's the total lack of any word from goa even though this affects a large part of their customer base who are paying them, and even though they're the only one's who can actually influence the french telenetwork about it :(

do what i did and email the admin of every router that shows up and tell them the problem, they contact either other again and it sorted its self in 6 hours. so if you do it before you goto work, you can come home and its ok.
