Ok another problem to add to my list on ongoing things...

Has anyone heard of a cold boot up?

My mobo is apparently always doing this.. I was just browsing FH and my comp crashed to blue screen.. when i reset my cd drives make a loading noise, my screen is black and i am getting no picture.. Reading manual and googling for help ive been told to reset my cmos. There are 2 ways which i have figured... using jumpers which didnt come with my mobo, or taking the battery out which i did and left it for 24 hours to still have the same problem. I have truied taking my cpu fan/chip out to see if its dust or something and i have removed some RAM... ive taken the gfx card / hd etc out to see if that was the prob but its still making the same noise. All my fans are on, just nothing is loading up.

my mobo is a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3...

can any1 help me?:(

  1. take the cpu out
  2. boot leave for 30 to 40 secs turn off
  3. replace the cpu and remove all the ram
  4. boot leave for 30 to 40 secs turn off
  5. try that ie boot in to windows and then restart

next steps
try a new bios battery
make sure your Sata driver are configured correctly
if poss test your parts ie fx card cpu and ram in another system

but it could be the mobo giving up the ghost

will give that a go when i get home... It doesnt seem to be the gfx card... the fans are turning etc and you can see it has a signal on the monitor. I have tried taking ram out already and i have 4x 1gig ram, 2 i recently bought however they are the same make/spec etc. Ill try rebooting without the cpu in as ive not done yet - thought it would be dangerous to but if u say its fine.

I also used a jumper for my clr_cmos and that did not do anything - although no power would boot up while the jumper was on...

thanks for help - more suggestions helpful

Disconect all cables exept power to mother board
you really want the bare minimum system to try and troubleshoot
when you do anything inside your pc always touch the chassis before you touch enything inside to remove any static eletricity
always remove the power cable from your mains supply after this as most systems still have power for standby and you can damage components

after that
take out all memory exept 1
reset cmos jumper
some systems need to be powerd on to reset cmos

turn on pc
hear any beeps from speaker ?

aye sounds like you have fired you mobo m8ty is it under warranty if so try getting a replacement

very weird of it to fry whilst surfing the net, although I have had temp problems - if u read this section alot you may know ;)

ordered my new mobo - Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

reconmened by a few of my mates, reliable, price, value etc.

Im just hoping its not my cpu which is causing the probs tho

Ive emailed Scan were I got my board, hopeing its still under warrenty ( only had it 4months)

Abit give a 3 year warranty m8 so it defo is but you might have to deal with abit rather than scan (if you have done any overclocking dont say you have of course just say it was all run at stock speed)
even if it is your cpu agian you might be able to get a replacement under warranty
