Anyone play? I've always been a bit curious about the game, but never really gotten into it due to it seeming like a huge investment sink before you can play properly. Not to mention i don't think any of my friends play.

Was just wondering if there's a good PC game of it that would be easy to get into and provide with the same experience.

Duel of the Planeswalkers on Steam would be your best option. However it lacks the deck construction side of the game.

The actual online version of MTG (MTG Online) can work out very expensive due to having to buy electronic boosters plus an entry ticket so 1 draft would cost say $15. Now if you are good and can keep winning boosters this can mitigate your spending and also opening or drafting expensive cards to sell on can help but essentially it's an expensive option. I know people who can break-even on it but they are good players who play a lot and are capable of winning most of the time. When I have played it in the past I've come close to breaking even but even then I can't justify the cost of it compared to a proper PC game.

Playing in person at a local games club is the other option and you then play it more for the social aspect. You can either play 'draft' where you open new packs and build decks from the cards you open or draft or you can play 'constructed' where you need to have a pool of cards already. This can get very competitive and expensive if you want to compete at the top. As a casual game playing with mates at a casual power level it a lot of fun but can get very expensive.

Yeah the deck construction is one of the interesting bits about it, so i'm kind of a rockhard place then :p

Have to check mtg online, maybe something there. Real life would work if there were players, would like to play "when feel like it". Thanks still ;)

I played MTG when Revised came out and I spent few hundred to start with and then after a few months the addiction kicked it. I spent £1000's over the years on those boxes/expansions etc... I had over 10,000 cards and I sold the lot for peanuts.

I stopped playing in 98 so I have no idea what they are like now. All I say is just be careful it can be addictive once you get into it and very expensive in the long run...

Fiddly to get going, but by far the best magic game out there. i played it for 100s of hours, 100s. It's sets of challenges against a vast array of decks, and you get to use 1000s of cards for free, i spent nights just fine tuning decks - ended up with just 2 of the challenges uncompleted, one being you had to win 10 games on the run against harder and harder opponents using only land cards....got to round 8 !

The Ai is occasionally out, but i'm surprised it works at all considering the complexity of what it's being asked, the modders have improved it dramatically from the original microprose game in the 90s, which this version is based on :)

oh and you can duel online, though not tried it with win7 yet, i should go for a re-install me thinks :)

Hhhmm not sure what type i was tbh. I tried all sorts of decks ranging from turbo stasis lock down deck to damage burst 3-4 turn killers and combo decks. I did like type 2 decks but i prefer the type 1 game play tbh.
