mage duels on gorre

Had a good lough yesterday when doing some mageduells.

It's just pointless .. the first rangedebuff wins. ( I think some of you were a bit surprised)
Don't see much use in duels between mages anyway. In normal rvr the one first nuking wins.

Got range debuffed by a cabalist, sprint at him, mezzed, pet hittin me, sprint at him again, in range he's dotted me now, qc bolt ... whee nice crit.. he's dead.

I did just that against a hunter yesterday - he shot, pbt, sprint, qc mezz, carnage follow with whatever means of destruction I chose from my mighty arsenal.

(Actually I owned him 4-5 times that way and I bet he was SO pissed he only hit me once in 10 shots or so - triplestacked 10 sec pbt is SO overpowered)

Have to say I wasn't really trying to duel anyone wizzies just aint built for that, go find a sorc/air theurg/cabalist if u wanna duel. I was primarily just testing out the earth spec spells and recording damage figures, but most ppl interpreted me as wanting to duel so I got QC-stunned/mezzed/nearsighted and keeled many times

I killed you a lot dueling, you cant do this suicidal strategy on every duel, you need some lucky. lol

theurg owns everything if u start the duel toe to toe. Well maybe a hib caster will qc stun u before u can qc mezz, but it depends on who starts casting first.

QC mezz, back off to 1800 range pet pet pet pet nuke nuke nuke run till run buff kicks in, few more pets, run ...

Assasins are impossible though; PA 600 dmg, /face QC mezz, meanwhile 100 dmg, 100 dmg, 80 dmg poison tic. Dead just before QC mezz lands, even if it did poison would finish me.

Only way to win is QC mezz, purge, FA and hope the assasin doesn't have purge.

No no , the nukers with bolts must prolly always win.
One did quickcast bolt , i was too slow, 1150 dmg, me dead. So except if your buffed to have more hp then that maybe u can still win, but i dont use buffs in duels.

about this time he has purged and will qc his stun (if he did not already spend the qc, which is highly likely - in which case he is dead)
you get hit by a nuke, purge the stun, cast your insta speed debuff for interrupt
THEN you hand him his arse backwards with butter and olives on.

pure speculation, but turning your back and running to range seems dangerous - he may purge and qc NS, then ure royally fucked.

ok so what if he has a bolt? pray.

Anyway, comes down to first cast i guess.

Two things...
about this time he has purged and will qc his stun (if he did not already spend the qc, which is highly likely - in which case he is dead)
If they have already spent qc you're already mezzed or stunned. Being CCed while QCing doesn't waste it - QC is only used if the spell completes.

cast your insta speed debuff for interrupt
Debuffs shouldn't interrupt in 1.52, due to them being moved to insta timers, they took out debuff interrupts (afaik, not checked this).

rofl. You killed me once in a duel from dot damage after i'd already killed you with bolt (purge wasn't ready )
And i didn't need any luck for it to work, every time bolt hit i was hittin for 983 (my cap i think, can't remember) The first 2 time i got crits of 4xx and 1xx on top of that but third time i killed you in one bolt i got no crit and still one shot you. So i didn't need luck to get the crit to kill you.
You did kill the other 2 elds who you constantly wanted to duel there a few times more, but they weren't as suicidal as me. The only other time i died was when you started being a twat and attacking us as soon as you got ressed.

Hey cocomix, I don't think your nearsight saved you too much fighting me

I won 3 or 4, then lost one due to being in the wrong quickbar, then another one where somone outside the duel shot me with a crossbow.

I did have the advantage of being a cpl of levels higher though, and after the first severing the tether you didn't try using the pet again (not sure whether to keep that on Excal, it's fun but a bit limited in the situations where it can be used)


Mage duels are fun, but seem to be to the death as it is hard to stop in time when the first dd removes half the guys life and then they don't give up, also dots and crits can kill by accident, and as someone said after seeing me duel "you mages fight hard and mean don't you."

All good fun on gorre but "regular" live duels are strictly tanks only I think.

And no tanks wanted to fight a duel with me on gorre, and I wanted to see how bad the stun nerfs are (I read some posts on VNboards suggesting stun times against a well RA'd tank are less than the 2 secs it takes to cast the spell, but I equally read a lot of whining about how stun is unfair).

My method is the one used against all chars (not just mages), and doesnt include purge. purge will screw u cus they just purge mezz and qc nearsight, maybe then u purge nearsight but they have cast advantage and u got no QC
