I believe a lot of it was down to pressure by retailers.

So basically you can buy this version now, or wait another few months and get the longer version. Fucking hell, they like cashing in don't they. Technically I bet they could make the longer version play both versions.

Depends, e-tailers could lose out by not being prepared to send them out. We got told after 6pm yesterday about the change in release date, the Bank holiday weekend will also affect posting times, so you may not get anything till Tuesday anyway.

At 9 last night I saw an Asda advert stating LOTR would be being sold from Tuesday the 26th. Feel for people who spent the money advertising.

Oh well in 45 minutes work starts seeling it, earlier than HMV and Virgin, so maybe we can steal some of their sales.

Its not like they arent telling people that they will be releasing a different version in a few months. You dont have to buy both.

Some people might want the originall, some the extended and some will want both.

I'm going to order the extended version.
I bought the ext ver last time and I felt it added a lot more to the story.

I bought it for the same price as the reg version thats avail in the shops! :)

Yep, I have the Gollum version on pre-order. I already have a *cough* copy *cough* of Two Towers, so it won't hurt me to wait.

I watched the extended version, tbh I thought it was 30 minutes of boredom. The opening sequence had its charm removed for the sake of more background on the story.

The documentaries, or 'advermentaries' were the same plain old rubbish. Why can't they let the BBC at it? They'd do a proper job, instead of sticking a low-contrast filter on the lens of the camera, and filling the entire advert with background music.

It's just a way to make more money, you know it, I know it, they know it, I'm just surprised people fall for it.

If I sold a piece of dog shit in a paper bag would you blame me for selling it or the person who bought it?

No-one's holding a gun to your head and saying BUY THIS FUCKER! (well, maybe in Toxteth).

Why buy any of em?

Just wait for the special 'All 3 in a box' set and get em in a much more presentable manner.

Same as the Star Wars series, all six in one box set.

Because then you have to wait, and then you wouldnt be a "collector".

Think I'll wait for the 4 disc version. Pre-ordered the first one and got a free mug. Felt like a mug when I saw the advert on the disc for the special 4 disc edition a month or so later. LoTR has been hacked to shreads anyway, I suggest reading the book before watching any of the films.

hmm, not sure if this should be in a new thread or not ...

Basically I got the version that is out right now and watched it through last night.

I'm thinking this might be due to me having a crap DVD player, but whenever anyone spoke in Elvish the subtitles would pop up for that & then not go away when they started speaking english again.

So I'd have to go into the menu and turn off subtitles and more often or not when I started watching again they would say 2 words in Elvish again and I'd have to go through the whole process again.

It was very very annoying and, especially ruined the whole Hell's Mouth battle. I'm wondering if I should take it back, or whether it is just my crap player :(

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Still bloody good film though

Sounds like a crap DVD player. I've never heard of this problem before. But then I'm waiting for the 4 disc version.
This doesn't happen on my FOTR 4 disc set either.

... it came with the WS TV and video from Argus, all LG. Strange though as I didn't think it did it with my Fellowship DVD - will have to check.
