Loot Rules on Raids

Heya,

This just is something I have been thinking about recently. I'm interested in what sort of lotto rules people prefer to see on raids they attend. Or anything people have seen that seems to work well.

On my raids, the goals with loot rules have been as follows:

1. People who attend the raids should have a chance to roll for loot that drops on those raids. (ie. I will never reserve drops)

2. Rules should apply to all, and be equally unfair to everyone.

3. Rules should make lotto as painless and hassle free for me personally as possible. (This is why I am not keen to have to write down or memorise long lists of everyone's alts and their alts' specs etc, especially if we have 90+ people in attendance)

4. Rules should allow lotto to be as fast and efficient as possible. We don't want to spend longer on the lotto than we did on the raid.

5. Rules should encourage, wherever possible, loot to end up in the hands of people who will use it.

No no no no. Do it the Midgard way.

If you're the raid leader, suddenly remember that maybe that dude that's out there farming RPs all day and didn't even come on the raid needs to get the best item(s) as he/she has done so much for your realm...

Some leaders allow anyone to roll for anything.
Some leaders only allow you to roll for the class present.
Some leaders hide/claim some of the drops for themselves.

Basically the important thing is for the loot rules to be noted down beforehand.

my raids i try to keep relaxed and friendly, and i try to make loot splits as painless as possible.
Here are a few sample rules i sometimes use:
Roll /random 1000 (less chance of draws and you can laugh at anyone that rolls in single figures)
Only one item per person.
Given the hassle a RL gets during the raid, they reserve the right to claim one item. (i only do this if its something that im really needing, not claim for the sake of it, offen ill roll like everyone else)
Lurilasses +50 on rolls (unfortunately ive had to stop using this as all the other races got jealous of all the hugs and kisses i got)
Keys: anyone can roll for a key, after getting item you can keep it (counts as your drop) or hand it back to the general loot.
You can roll for other items it you have won something but if you win you have to hand back your old item.
Say stopping rolls 10 secs, then stop. and dont accept any after this, or any that were out of hearing range.
at the end offer to hand out the unclaimed/salvage items to any that didnt get items.
If someone does something for the good of the raid (ie leading a split of group, being a sacrifice) you can give them a +100 on thier roll as a reward.
If people misbehave give them a -100 as a warning, they do it again then throw them off raid.

Alternative method:
Use a con merchant/house vault and put the items in it.
give everyone 20+ minutes or so to get to your house and look at items.
Get everyone to roll random 1000.
People get to pick an item in the order of the rolls.

dude... there is a tool to always win /random draw's.

In short all the /random does is take the timer on the server and strip numbers acordingly. I did read a looong thread on whiineboards about ppl trying this. They simply did set a timer to do a /random 100 each second and logged the result. They concluded that it was a predictible random generatorn in the game and viola somebody made a module for daoc unleached that made it possible to select "your" answer to a /random.
So after a few incidents in FFA raids where i strongly belive somebody played with the numbergenerators i decided to (with a skilled programers help) make a non game realted random generator that would give full tracebility and would be totaly "temper" proof. Yepps it looks like crap but it uses a Verisigned random source.
Create yourself a own account or use test/test if you like to test it.

Imo you give the loot to the 'Hero's' of the realm.

That is your friends.

The rules ive always held to are simple :

1 item per person on large raids(including keys/remains/weap dyes/scrolls etc)

You roll for the class ur taking on the raid unless you have time to sort out nominating alts which would then count as there primary lotto class.

If someone whos already had some loot but no one else wants the item they would also like then they can have it (if more than 1 person wants it thats already had loot /random 100).

If someone rolls for loot and has the intention of selling it and u know before hand then refuse to give the item, if they do sell it, then dont allow them on any of ur future raids.

These guidelines have always worked for me as well as allow things to go fast.
I dont delay on lottos and always rush though it as the lotto is normaly the longest and most testing part of the whole raid.

Hope this helps :)
