So i decided that the best solution for a new computer is to just buy off a slightly used gaming computer(text editing etc is ofcourse doable in any form).

Found, for example, this;

Intel 2.80 GHz dualcore · 1066 FSB · 4 GB DDR2 800 CAS4 · 1000 GB SATA 3.0 Gb/s · Radeon HD 4650 1 GB · DVD+/-RW 20×

Just wondering, you techies, is that enough for a good gaming experience, or should i get more bang for the buck and get a more used computer?

That would around the 550e mark.

Also other suggestions, ideas etc would be welcome.

Other one i found at the 550 mark is this;

Monitor - Samsung SM2233RZ 22" 3D Ready

3D glasses - Nvidia GEFORCE 3D VISION

Power - Chieftec PSU ATX 600W

Motherb. - Asus M3N-HD/HDMI

Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHZ AM2+

Memory - 4GB Kingston 1066MHZ DDR2

GFX - ASUS ENGTX275

HD - WD Caviar 1TB SATA300 7200rpm 32MB

Sound - Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

CD/DVD - LG Light Scribe write

KB - Logitech (langaton)

Mouse - Creative FATAL1TY Gaming mouse

ADSL - D-Link DSL-2740B WIRELESS N

WLAN USB - D-Link DWA-140 WIRELESS N

OS - Windows Vista Home Premium (full)

The last one is good because it includes a monitor.

The first one is certainly not worth €550 (£480ish) even new it would be cheaper.

The second ones while it comes with a monitor and (pointless) 3d shizzle is also not worth the price either.

If you don't know how to build one have a look at the Tech Forum and ask there, it really isn't hard to home build, its not as if you can put stuff into the wrong slot.

Do you have links to these? I realise it's all probably in Finnish, but the CPU is Dual Core, however we don't know if it's a Core2Duo etc

Also you can buy the 4650 graphics card for about £30-50. I checked Tom's Hardware and the 4670 scored a little lower than the 8800GTS. This should run things like Left 4 Dead, HL2 etc, but games such as the new CoD may require medium to low settings.

Good point, i do have an old comp-box that i could use. Have to get the specs and then ask if it could be upgraded cheaper.

Sure you need 3D Toth?

Yeah, probably not, atleast now :D

I still try to avoid ATI and prefer NVidia for gfx cards.
Although the driver issues are much better than they used to be in the past, there are still technical problems.

uh? My ATi 4870 is wtfpwnawesome, and I've never had one break. For that matter, I've never had an Nvidia card break either.

only thing I do have in the A><N discussion, is that I like Nvidia's drivers more because of the user interface.

Yeah checked around and since i have one old case that is good enough for an upgrade, going to throw the specs to the local super-computer-genius store boys and get an estimate.

i had nothing but trouble with the asus 7900gt, had two of them break on me - there was some problem with the memory used on the cards, and i specifically asked for a different batch (not with the same memory) but was sent exactly the same. after the 2nd one broke i got ANOTHER one from the same batch and just gave it to a friend and bought a 8800gt. the funny thing is, the 7900gt is still working on my friends computer with no problems

geez that's unlucky fl3a, though the fabricators have been known to have bad runs. at the company I work we were once setting up a new server park and had about 80% of all the disks fail within the first three months. needless to say neither we nor our vendor were pleased :/

That happens fairly often we sold over 1000 harddisks which were HP Originals but it turns out they were re conditioned and sold by HP so they had a good warranty but they had over a 20% failure rate and out customer was not impressed.

neither of those are worth the price you'd pay for them, if your going around the £500 budget best off getting a decent intel dual core like 8400 or 8500 (i'd say i7 but for £500 you wouldnt get an i7 I doubt)

i'm looking at ebuyer now just get something like this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Socket 775 (3.0GHz) 1333FSB 6MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor - £120

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L iG31 Socket 775 onboard VGA 7.1 channel audio mATX Motherboard - £32.87 (cheap and cheerful mobo)

Asus HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - £154.38

Antec EarthWatts 650W PSU - 80Plus Certified 12cm Fan 3x 12V Rails - £63.99

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit CL5 1.8v - £80

Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM - £55

total £500-ish - be good for gaming + whatever else, I guarantee that an E8400 will still run any game on the market currently at full everything, was running Operation Flashpoint 2 with everything max and it didnt bat an eyelid.

Thats pretty much a system, just fill in the blanks like Case, DVD/CD drive, CPU cooler (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105994 is a nice one for intel 775's) stuff like sound cards etc you could add over time.

Add flash to the list.

Have to gather these all up for future reference.

Any ideas/info on a PG for win7 are appreciated too, though i'm keeping away from any un-necessary downloads of any kind.
