Well, this is sorta silly, or not, query of bands.

What i'm looking for is rather "multiversal" as i'm interested in bands like Bay city Rollers, but the main focus is on bands that have performed the type of music like "Uptown girl" and "Mister Sandman".

No i don't mean metallicas' "enter sandman" or that bloody whiney boyband version of uptown girl :D

I think Joel Billy performed Uptown girl and Emmylou Harris the sandman. But, you know the type now, that surf and turf type or the swinging 60's type.

All bands, preferably corny as f*ck, welcome :)

some really nice stuff from the 50/60s have a look at the sufaris did a track called wipe out, the kingsmen = louie louie, booker t = green onions, and the champions = tequila (i think it was the champions).

dunno if your in to the whole rat pack thing but bobby darrin is always good for some swingin sounds (mack the knife and unless im mistaken...which i could well be he did splish splash).

If you want all out cheese you can't do better than Frankie Lymon and the Teenages - "Why do fools fall in love" or even better their version of " I put the Bomp "

and general other doo wappery
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_doo_wop_songs

as for uptown girl, it's just a modernish reworking of doo wap with a large influence from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Um you've got about 4 different genres mixed up. Surf music is twanging guitar intrumentals from the early 60s, doowop is the vocal harmony stuff from the 50s/early 60s you mention which billy joel is ripping off in that song. The Bay City Rollers is a scottish teenybop band from the 70s.

If you're interested 60s music and dunno where to start, Rhino puts out some pretty decent comps which are 100% orginal recordings and tend not to have any crap on, ie:

Even if don't want to shell out the doh, there's a list of tracks and bands there. Most of it is good stuff, not as corny as fuck :(
