I closed off the first semester of my second year on Thursday, and today saw that my presentation and results scored 82%. Now fingers crossed that the other lecturer (this was a combined semester) doesn't screw me (if my final from him goes below 75% I will be well ticked off) and all will be well. Tbh, I am both surprised and amazed, seeing as this was the semester from HELL:

we had both teachers pissed off in class not to mention attention from the school board
one of the teachers potentially going to be fired
the class itself having to come up with solutions for the shite teaching quality
perceived lack of direct action from the board
threat of low or non-passing grades hanging over our heads (allegedly last year's set of passing people was extremely low)
after a massive amount of complaints, the quality of the classes suddenly rocketed up, but also generally the amount of cuntishness from the teachers.

Lots of uni types here. Could you enlighten me as to your general perception of the quality of your classes/teachers and what you do to make it better?
I must say, I am a part time student with 8 hours of physical classes per week, about 16 hours of homework, and the rest of the time I either do my job or sleep heh. I was wondering if coming from the workforce I am more sensitive to quality dips, or just generally do not put up with people being shit or cutting corners.

Do tell!

You're like one of those women on facebook teeds. Why don't you start doing yoga, spinclass and zumba while you're at it.

I believe now is the appropriate time to delete your account and quit the forum in a hissy fit.

I'm guessing that person is no longer a friend and is also suing you for defamation of character.

Good work Teeds - Uni lecturers are a real mix of hit and miss. I had one who went a bit mental - in her revision tutorials it turned out that when we went to the exam she had basically taken us through the exam questions.

Then she ran off and burnt all the exam papers - the Uni gave us all a B...

I have mixed opinions about uni.

I met great friends and had a good time, tho I must say the quality of teaching was appalling, and having discussed this with many of my friends from the uni I went to, (and other unis), they had the same opinion. I don't see how one can justify so expensive tuition fees for the very little they do, and in some cases I was sure to be paying just to get my exam marked. They were often late to lectures, or never turned up. They would just read notes from the slides (ok well you might say what else can they do). The good ones talked about industry experiences, got people in for talks etc (there were a few good ones). I could go on all night about it, but I think you get the idea.

And what you say about part time TDC. I was "full time", but often had 1 lecture and 1 tutorial throughout the whole day. Then the next day would be crammed without a break.

cheers bro. you're kidding about the fires though right? we've got some nutters, but mostly of the "should never become a teacher because they can't handle the pressures of interacting with other humans" sort. not...err...pyromaniacs.

yeah dude. the weird thing is that they're supposed to enforce the rules of the game in us but instead of timely marks and consequent teaching, etc we just get the shit (mostly). Stupid planning, over-large classes but with multiple teachers, examination rooms with defective lighting, etc. I've currently had exactly one good teacher. This semester was the pits tbh. One lecturer actually told us he expected us to do everything ourselves, and would be available "for questions" if we were thick enough to not understand the course content.
Another thing: my mum actually used to be an exam observer at this particular school, and even she was complaining about how badly things were managed and stopped doing the (volunteer) job because she couldn't handle how bad the messing up was.

So you passed, does this mean you now owe Chilly a blowjob?
nah, this is C programming. The big Chill doesn't do proper programming languages ;)

Lecturer once told me he loved his job, twice the pay and half the work of a school teacher. About sums them up.

I am much in the same boat, with work and uni at the same time and i agree i am much less tolerant of shit quality than i was at my first attempt at uni.

usually if we have a crap teacher we help each other out a lot, though sometimes we end up confusing ourselves even more! :p

aargh! some things I really don't want to hear :( ofc, there's always the bad, the really bad and the halfway decent. I'm supposed to learn from these people ffs :(

yeah we tend to band together too. at least you get the motivation from helping a brother out, and vice versa. I pulled a couple of all-nighters, and so did my groupmates resulting in a deffo pass. I'd have hated to be alone on this course 0o

they've now cancelled the kick-off of the next semester, while simultaneously warning us that we have to be prepared as they intend to go to high speed mode the instant the classes start. wheee!

I've been given my marks for the semester, but they have forgotten to award me points towards the bachelor paper, meaning that I officially have yet to pass the semester. lol!

gah, nothing of the sort! I've emailed teh lecturers a suitably polite letter asking them where my points are. as far as I have been able to discover....nobody's been awarded more than 1/3 of the points. ffs.
