OK so am on my lunch break at work right now using the public computer just to check out FH and twitter emails and stuff like that, where I am the public libraries provide free inet access for 1hr per day, people can use the computers ever day we are open and print, scan whatever.

So my main point thus far is it is free, the amount of people who come in to use the computers and frigging moan about them makes me want to go nuts and kill them all with a pencil sharpener. In many areas of the country people still have to pay for library inet use and some libraries don't have any at all. In fact the number of people who moan about the service in general really piss me off, they could go to an inet cafe and pay to use the computers for as long as they like but they come here because we are free...then they frigging kick off because they only get an hour, don't know how to use the computers and are annoyed that the lib staff won't do it for them, the net speed is too slow moan moan moan moan!!

I hate people who moan about free stuff, can we please all write to the government and make it illegle to complain about free stuff please because it's really getting up my arse... am typing it as listening to moaning and wishing I had the ability to explode people with my brain power!!

You should put up a sign that tells people that if they moan they have to make a compulsory donation to the library to help bring it up to their unreasonable standards.

I'd go with a sign that reads:

"Don't like it? Leave!!!"

yeah he was moaning way too loud...and the funny little slapping noises from under his desk were a bit alarming too Oo

also, have to laugh when people get so stroppy they storm out yelling "I'll never use this service again!!" as if it's a fancy hotel or something expensive and we're all like, um ok then lol

While i agree that moaning about free stuff is, well, unvalid as a badger on a pogostick trying to march to poland...to put the shoe on the other foot; i hate the service people who don't realise they are in a SERVICE profession.

Are you at the shop register? Smile f*cker.
Feeling down at the coffee shop? Tough sh*t, be polite.
Annoying people at the library? Do your job.

If you can't stand people complaining or can't pretend it's all rainbows up the arse, then don't go into the service profession.

That's bollocks - People don't have a divine right to whine & whinge at people in the service profession. Everyone deserves to be treated with common courtesy & if they don't then they should expect to be treated with disdain. One of the greatest joys in my life was being a bar tender & refusing to serve stuck up twats that thought they had a god given right to treat you like shit & then demand a drink.

If you want service from someone in a service profession stop being a twat & be nice; you'll get much better & quicker service (if you actually get any at all being an idiot - frankly I'd ignore you or just tell you to go away).

Who said anything about you having to take sh*t?

I was clearly talking about shit service people.

The starting line is "I'm a customer, you should be polite and serve".

If something changes that, fine, but YOU chose to serve people and your crappy day or some OTHER crappy customers shouldn't effect your job.

Annoying customers are part of the job too, dicks and assholes are not something you have to take, but are expected.

You should know this if you go behind a bar.

To add a point;

If your problem is this...

don't know how to use the computers and are annoyed that the lib staff won't do it for them

...then perhaps, PERHAPS you should've thought about it before working at a library. You're expected to help.

Regardless if the customers are being nice or not, there's always a limit of what's in the job description and how much can they expect to demand out of you too!

So Tohtori, if you worked that bar, and some customer comes up and smiles charmingly and says "please mister bartender, can you come wait our table all night?!" you still shouldn't have to do it because that's not your damn job. :p

If Ez's librarian job description doesn't include holding internet use classes for moronic customers who expect to be spoon fed on top of already having a free service, then indeed she has a right to moan about it.

I consider myself very service minded as well in my profession (working for the government issuing permits etc), but on top of not taking crap, I also won't bend over backwards to please the customer if they demand something that i can't or shouldn't be doing for them. I'll politely refer them to the right place, and that's that. Or rudely refer them, if they were asses about it. :p

Ofcourse Levin, but i wanted to bring the other side of that coin to the table too.

Customers may be annoying, but worse are the servants who shouldn't be in service.

Yes, there are people who shouldn't be in the service profession indeed.

For example, i remember having lunch at a restaurant and the sauce tasted like salted dirt and the meat was tough as a sole. I wasn't really going to bother complaining, but when the water asked "did it taste well?" I kind of told him what I thought as constructively as I could, just to.. you know, be helpful. The reply i got was "too bad, we can't do anything about that".

I never went back there and I warned others about it too, and indeed a couple months later the place went out of business. :D

But that's not what the issue was about now is it. The thing was Ez is a librarian who has to put up with users complaining about a free computer service (not a free book service or something like that).

I think the customers are worse & the amount of people that think they're entitled to things & respect truly sickens me. You earn these things, they are not a right.

That's wrong, as a customer you already have rights, have to be treated better, with respect etc. That's the whole point of service jobs, you're there to help them.

So when i enter a restaurant, a store, even the library, i expect the people there to be helpful and not give an attitude just because they have a shitty day. It's neither here nor there WHO you are in service jobs, the thing that matters is that you do your job.

The customer is always right, but that doesn't make it illegal to have personal issues, jesus christ.

...users complaining about a free computer service (not a free book service or something like that).

...

I shuld have mentioned in the first post but there was someone from the IT team with the guy for at least 15 mins desperately trying to help him save his work into a memory stick...which the library provided because he didn't know how to do it, while the guy was ranting and moaning. It's not like we just sat there and said "deal with it sucker!"

well, I sat there and made a snipey post about him on an interweb forum ...but the IT gal was well helpful!
