Right, i mishandled one stick of 256 and it broke (yes yes - qq >.>). No probs, i'll just fetch another 256. It fitted in, i'm back on 512mb and away we go.

However, earlier today my computer got the blue screen of death with physical memory leaks. I uninstalled unncessary programs, ran windows in safe mode and virus scanned etc. None of this worked. So i simply took out the new stick of 256. I haven't got any memory dumps yet so its looking good. However, if someone could inform me on whether the ram is the actual source or not but basically just tell me what the fuck happened.

Also, my second query: my power lead has been playing up for quite some time. Is it just a matter of buying a new one with the same voltage?

What OS are you running, and what speed/make ram?
Also have you tried a any ram freeing programs?

If you wish to make sure your memory is ok.

Search for memtest86. Download and install onto a floppy disk or burn the ISO image onto a CD and boot from that.

Then boot up with cd or floopy and let memtest give your memory and real work out.

It is worth pointing out, that when your pc boots up, the memory test is normally skipped, since the user wants a quick boot up. Even when its switched on (the memory test, that is). It is far from being a strenous test of your memory.

If its a newish mobo and processor its probably caused by a timing mismatch between the two modules. Your Mobo will try to use the two banks of RAM as one. Which is why you should always buy a matched pair these days. Sometimes you can set the timing of the RAM in BIOS but you will need to get the timing for both modules and work out the BIOS settings. Usually detailed on datasheets from the manufacturer of the module.

what he said, also in the past (but not some common nowadays) i had a similiar problem with the ram contacts one had silver other had gold for some reason didn't like each other, apart from that they were identical...
