mmm not convinced. What about windows games??? IE: Direct X?
Which I don't THINK they can use as its a 'Microsoft' product etc.

It may be a pipe dream thanks to Bill Gates :(

Yea but Office is hardly a FPS!!! :p
Get me? I mean how they gonna get games to run??? without Direct X???! aint gonna happen man! ;) well it might...
My point was Windose games don't just need a windows environment, they need Direct X, which is essentially the interface between the game and to all the hardware in your puter!!! :)

Lindows is basically an alternative to Windows.

There was a reveiw of a beta version on some newsite(linked to by slashdot) which pretty much confirmed that it doesn't cut the mustard as Linux.

I beleave it is not DirectX that is the trouble, but specifically Direct3d. Transgaming have pushed forward the development of both into wine, but their Direct3d work isn't in the wine tree yet, as they need to make money.

Simple fact is that there isn't a need for a middle solution, thus Lindows will most probably fail even in MS doesn't clean them out.

well to me it looks like Linux + Wine = Lindows

Isnt that exactly what it is?
Linux with a tweaked version of wine preinstalled?

Im sure i read something about it, someone took the packages installed them another version of linux and its exactly the same.

But Wine is shit. And it doesn't have DirectX implementation.

True enough, but then none of the apps showed running on Lindows are DirectX based

Lindows != Linux.

It's basically RH + KDE - Anything complicated.

Oh, and `Anything complicated' includes differant user accounts(you're forced to run as root)

Yup :)

Lindows would be better off competing directly with windows. Instead of using Linux and integrating other os! or PARTS of other os

;)

Not sure, don't know what rights it would have. (Probably None)..
I'm just saying that consumers would like to have a different OS to windows. But one that can run windows software, including DIRECT X or 3d!!!!!! But Lindows is'nt it i'm afraid :(

But it's still sort of pointless, esp now windows is coming together quite nicely.

Well Linux isn't a viable desktop OS for the gaming community anyway. Although Quake is very quick. Would help if someone would update GLQW to use things other than 3dfx.

True! But choice is good! and besides the Gates has owned the market for too long...

But this is pointless, cos windows will still be the leader, Lindows is not!

RIP, Embattle windows will still rule! :)

All 3 Quake games work perfectly with Nvidia cards on Linux.

I can't think of a better OS to play the games i want to play(Q3+wolf+Q2).

Windows sounds better then Lindows. And Windows has been the front runner since Bill Gates bought out MS-DOS off IBM. Why not stick to the tested and true?

?

It's been proven Q3 runs faster on Linux than on XP, or any Windows OS ;)
Also, Wolf support for Linux is perfect, relnev's Q2 easily matches the Windows binaries, so where's the problem?

Hell, HL ran perfectly through wine, i just no longer play it!

Yeah I saw something like that once....although the figures were utter crap since the machines specs were totally different or something like that :p

I know for a fact, theRegister have found this to be the case, using the same machine.
