It's not pedantry, it's reason. Something you seem to be lacking in this aspect. You're just shouting about how they aren't doing enough/hiring enough without having to think about any of the logistics behind things. The ideal is fine, but the support of it is poor.

Your perception of positive discrimination is terribly jaded, but I sympathise with your position as I felt like that for awhile until it was explained to me how the recruitment process works. (The police don’t positively discriminate by the way).

The idea that you get point’s for being a gay, one legged; Buddhist is ridiculous by the way. There is no such point system.

What they (the police) do however is actively target minority groups, as they have very little response in terms of applications from them. It doesn’t mean a person from a minority group is more likely to get accepted in comparison to yourself, it simply means the police will advertise the job opportunities more rigorously in those areas.

The person that suggested applying for another force and then transferring that “awarded” test centre pass is bob on also. This is allowable. Also what a lot of people do is join the met as it has the lowest pass score (iirc) and recruits the most out of all the forces, then after two year probation period transfer to the desired force (most forces are always accepting transfers).

There is also rumour amongst some that the recruitment process will soon become friendlier to specials that have served for an undecided amount of time (probably a year + [two more likely]) and have completed the SOLAP scheme. I think Derby is using something similar to this already.

Either way I’d suggest joining as a Special as a very worthwhile thing, it’ll give you a massive insight into the work of the police and you may even find out you don’t like it.

Its going to look really primitive in twenty years time - it makes organisations like the police obsessed with racial origins of their employees and targets to improve these.

We wont be past racism till all this crap goes out the window and we drop the obsession with perfect racial representation in every large organisation (which is frankly impossible).
