Yea those bastards, prosecuting those nice men selling pirate or ilegal copies of games purely out of a desire to "do right" and not out of a desire to profit off of someone else's work.

And damn Microsoft for providing an easy to use set of software and procedures, removing all that lovely software compatiblity confusions that used to plague PCs.

Microsoft bashing sux, theyve done alot of good for making pcs more accessable and easier to work with, i dont give a shit about comeptition, their stuff does exactly what I and just about every other home user needs .

not gettin in to a huge argument, but if it wasnt for MS home PCs and general standard software just wouldnt be around.

Every PC ive had has been a Windows PC and has been fine, an occasional crash is not exactly a disaster, and theyve fixed most of the reliablity issues recently anyway.

And kannonfodda, no they did it for themselves, they made the products to make money, they put in the time and effort in so they deserver the rewards, there is no justification for software piracy at all, regardless of whether we have all done it or not. Also as a side point if it wasnt for the fucking dedicated/harcore pirates and bootleggers a singificant amout more could be spent by the vendors on reducing their prices or making better software, so they did it for themslves, but that has a knock on effect of improving things for the users.

Windows is easy to use and brough simplicity to personal computers. Comprehensive packages that compared to went went before them, were and still are very cheap (always bundled with PCs). Microsfts domination is a goo dthing for the home and office worker/user because it brings market costs down and allows simplicity (moving between MS products is a piece of piss, anyone whose used 1 can isntantly recongise the basics for another). The only people ive ever seen really critisize MS are fuckin geeks with their head shoved firmly up their linux box.

Who run your hotmail account (the frontend is Win2k, but only the frontend), a large number of your game servers, and an awful lot of things you rely on. So be nice to them.

Whilst lik-sang are a quality outfit, it's just another excuse for idiots to jump on the "M$!!!!" bashing bandwagon, from their winxp home pc's of course.

Well, 100% isn't possible, due to the joy of patents and closed standards.

But for non-gamers, linux is a perfectly viable alternative. My non-techie flatmate (trust me, he thinks Freecell is a good game) has been running a Debian laptop without a hitch for 9 months, when it was installed with Win98, he managed 3 months before it required a reformat and reinstall.

It does everything he needs, and it doesn't crash.

hmm, sounds very much like win2k. Only win2k plays games, and doesnt substitute a double click for 200 lines in the command prompt.

Win2K crashed on me loads of times...

WinXP is much better.

He never saw a command prompt. He's totally non-technical.

Win2k crashes, it just seems stable compared to Win98. And I did say "for non-gamers".

Hell, I run Win2k on one of my boxes. Direct3d games and linux don't mix. It's just nice to have options.

I think windows is like some sort of cancer cos its directory seems to grow for no apparant reason!

Its something to think about. I know my dad is very keen to have a legal PC, and is not keen to shell out the big bucks Microsoft were asking.

Which makes me really confised as to how he ended up with an iMac.
