Licencing Question

One for the server bods really, but I thought the general plebs may be interested in any answers as well.

If you set up a public server for people to play games on what is the licencing deal?

I'm assuming that as long as the server is non commercial you just have to buy a copy of the game, but if it's commercial do you have to strike a licencing deal with the game's publishers?

Just curious really.

If its a free public there are generally no licencing issues (unless you're being naughty and doing something dodgy liking running up a UO shard). If its not, then it varies depending on the publisher.
