1) use divx / xvid codec(s) for compressions instead of windows standard one,
2) rescale (down) the resolution (512x384 is enough to keep the 4:3 ratio)
3) If possible, use mp3 for music.

You can download a lot of tools for this, best i've found is using VirtualDub.

Video: Xvid or DivX Pro, recently i've only been using DivX Pro, High Definition with Insane Quality Settings... very very good.
1800 - 2000 kbps usually...

Sound: I always compress the sound afterwards with VirtualDub using LAME Mp3 Codec.

350mb for 14 mins is just wrong :p Should easily get 20 - 25 mins on 350mb with decent quality.

i thought the quality on my vid was good enough, was about 250 MB for 15 minsish, and that was using xvid for video, and radium mp3 codec (which you have to pay for these days, but i got a really old copy from ages ago when it was free.)

quality wise it was good enough so that people could read the text on my chat box etc. i think i used a higher res than most people do though.

dont pick random bitrates and hope it to look good

use two pass and aim for a certain size, that way you get best quality possible

first pass is used to find out how well the video can be compressed
then the bitrate can be varied to achieve best possible result

just picking 1000kbps divx/xvid and pressing compress is bad

I've been trying out some different settings myself lately.
I'm using Sony Vegas and this is an example of the settings i'm happy with so far.

http://s53.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WYS0DYW32YFR2HE87E9Y1OE2N

A test i did with an almost 11 min vid was 132MB with songs. A 25 min vid should end up at around 300MB, which isn't bad.

I set the video rendering quality to "preview", which i thought was better than "good" or "best".
1024*768
framerate 24(film)
XviD MPEG-4 codec. Target quantizer at 5 or 6, i think.

Saved as .avi

Something deffo sounds wrong there. As a general rule it's about 10-15mb per minute.

Sound like you have a setting wrong somewhere! :/

What is the raw footage size? What programs have you used?

What did you use to capture?

I would probably do gamecam into moviemaker -> wmv output
or fraps -> virtualdub thing xvid -> moviemaker/sony vegas -> wmv/avi

use the twopass xvid and aim for a specific size like i said already

14min at that resolution should be like 300-400MB

so fire up autogk or regular gk, selecet source, audio, enter 400MB as size and select high quality 2 pass xvid, press encode and youre done
