Been playing this game for over a month now and although I only play for a few hours at a time I am still finding it bloody hard to get a char up to 14! :/

I usually solo white/yellows/large groups of green and blues or duo with a friend and do pretty much the same but with less downtime but the XP is trickling in and its getting a tad annoying.

Does anyone have any tips on how to speed up the leveling process?

large groups aren't worth it, they take too much end for the XP they give you.
solo you're best off running missions, or group and go to Boomtown or Faultline.
leveling is a lengthy process tho, no matter how you do it

Class also plays a factor ofcourse. Blaster probably being the best soloers all-round

Big groups are good if you can AE kill them all at once, otherwise you're better off with small groups.

Look to join taskforces as often as you can ... good xp and nice bonuses along the way.

To be more specific it would be helpful to hear your class and spec - blasters are the pre-eminent soloers (*cough* overpowered *cough*) in CoH but regen scrappers can solo nicely on even cons.

All I can say is AoE kill large grps is a very fast way to level. I started an AoE blaster last week and hit 17 yesterday would think the active time would be something like 20h.

When I level with my tanker I usually grp with my RL friends we are about 2-3 in the grp and thats also good exp.

Never did a TF mission but I hear they are good for exp also.

My controller is too gimp to solo. :(

And the really sad thing is that 'perfect' xp groups don't *really* need a controller, or a defender for that matter. Getting groups at 30+ for my controller is like having all of one's birthdays and christmases together.

A controller would be advised to get a heal as quickly as possible, then at least they can duo with a scrapper or a tanker.

Bels, what kind of enh do you have on your powers? I'm and elec/elec blaster and so far have stuff like - end reduction/dmg on my powers.. then on an immobilisation power I have ofc enh immobilisation dur as well as end reduction and dmg. On one I also have a defense enh. I'm only lvl 12 atm and all enh are at my lvl or above. I can solo white/yellow/(minion) orange but the orange ones are tough for me and ofc I can't take many hits. Does that sound like what you experienced?

Well I duo with sarum mostly (he plays fire blaster). It works pretty well - I can CC the mobs to keep them in AE range much better. ;) Also my secondary is empathy so I'm pretty good at healing. That said, duoing with Mr Torment's scrapper, I rarely needed to heal him - just stuck fortitude on him and disorient / hold all the mobs. :p

Ala, that sounds about right to me.

yup, tho I opt for accuracy over damage.
the damage I do doesn't matter anyway if I can't hit a brick wall from 3 feet away :p
I try to stay away from oranges as much as possible tho. some are fairly easy, but if I miss a bit too much I can have huge downtime.

iirc, my blaster has 1 SO acc and 3-4 SO damage enhances on all nukes, that seems to do the job. ;)

Yup, Danyan duoing with me seems to work fairly well! I don't even have to use reconstruction (self heal for 1/3 health on a ~3 minute timer) too often!

As for enhances, I'm trying to put one of each type (damage, accuracy, end reduc, recharge reduct, and others inc for some powers defence debuffs, to-hit buffs, or range increases) on each attack, I'll prob fill the rest with damage. As I'm a claw scrapper my attacks are pretty fast, so I'm not majorly worried if one misses occasionally, I always have a few accuracy inspirations if necessary!
