Lets put the FUN back

No doubt most of you have read Spoofs departing rant on the Savage Board as well as the Che banning incident so I think we should all do something to nip things in the bud before it all goes pear shaped. We need to implement principles that everyone should adhere to and promote them on the public servers.Lets face it,the public servers are becoming stale, particulary team mods as the win at all costs attitude is creeping in there as well.

Whats the point of being on the winning team if you outnumber the opposition by 2-1?.Whats the point of playing lpb sides v hpw sides?.Dominating a map (by fair means) is the objective of a league game, but on a public server where the score is instantly forgotten is boring and is no fun for anyone,on either side.
If we can all set a standard on the public servers then that will benefit everyone, the newbies just coming into the scene will learn teamplay and standards, and the future of the game will be brighter for everyone.Something we can take with us to Q3 to prevent that going the same way QW has gone and Q2 is going.

The usual excuses for not swapping sides are usually "Ive got a tech".Bollocks,so what.If the only people who swapped sides were the ones without techs that still leaves all the techs on one team and they still dominate the map which just causes people from the opposing team to disconnect. All it needs is a little self discipline to get things back on track.
I usually play LMCTF and I try to keep things fair and promote teamplay.

If teams are unfair and I have a tech,I go to the enemy base and drop my tech, weps, ammo, power shield etc or hide it all somewhere and pick it up when I change sides.
I have in the past dropped weps for enemy players who only have a blaster, and the thing is they respect that and don't shoot me back, well not straight away anyway
smile.gif
.
I never shoot respawns, either salute them or give them a wep and only last week nobody would swap sides so I took the enemy flag back and dropped all my stuff. The respect I get off players for fair play means more to me than respect for 0wning.

There are always gonna be wankers who have to cheat cos they are crap and at the moment there is a bot out that bypasses the BW .dll.Its clan [RAT] (rhymes with twat) that are plagueing the LM server at the moment with their ratbot and the usal response from everyone on the server is to give them shit, yet these same people refuse to swap sides to make the teams even.Double standards if u ask me.

As for the people who still cheat even though they are good, well that's even worse than the bot users. If they have to rely on an unfair advantage to beat someone the question arrises as to how good they think they are in the first place. The incident with 'Che' using a hacked exe to overcome FPS capping and being banned from the Savage league for example.Im not saying 'Che' is crap, far from it,but surely he must be thinking was it worth it.He can more than hold his own without it and thats what pisses people off.I remember reading something Flex wrote on Rudes views, before it got pulled, that he had a key bound to push his rate and fps up and cycle through different skins so that when he met a modemmer he would just freeze up and become easy meat.Im sorry Flex but thats just lame, surely your skill and ping is enough and having to rely on disabling your opponent to kill him just stinks of the 0wn attitude that Spoof wrote about.

Anyway, thats my view on things and hopefully some of you may take it upon yourselves to set a standard and stick to the number one rule of 'Its only a game'.
Maybe someone can set up a Fair Play site with a set of rules and a logo.Clans whose members abide by it can then stick the logo on their site and boot out any members who break the rules.Just a suggestion..

P.S. Nice new webboard, made me laugh when it emailed my random password and it began UNR...

I totally agree with what you said , sure its nice to win but is it the be all and end all of gaming , nah ... I don't think it is .
You only have to go ont a duel server and have 'tarts' disconnect on you just because you happen to be beating them.
Me personally just make up cheesy excuses ... heh

here here,
though I don't think it is as bad as you make out.
I mean, these are just a few individuals whoare grabbing the publicity for their actions.
If it really was a game where winning was all that mattered, lamers would be sworn at till they left servers, they would be outcasts from the whole community of Quake.
furthurmore, those with fancy big lettering are there to show thier individualality and show off, surely in the "winning is all that matters" world they too would be kicked off for trying to have a laugh. (I save mine for special occasions [eg a kill])

The situation isn't as bad as we try to make out but then again take the 11 year olds out there, not just the ones who play quake(like my brother), but who take part in any team game, be it football, hockey or CTF, if they were brought up in world where winning was all that mattered they would be the most unlikable people on earth, they would have no sense of enjoyment for what they do and it is nbot understandable why anyone would want to play if they couldn't enjoy it.

If I didn't enjoy playing Quake 2 (win, lose, kill or fragless) then I wouldn't nother. the fact is that we have a laugh with the names we know, we can enjoy the moments when our shameless clan mates fall into the lava- rather than think "Oh no, we've lost a frag- if we lose I'll chuck him out"* we think "Ha HA HA- what a <insert word of choice here**>"

Quake is fun, it's a laugh, but as soon as people demand that they win it will lose all those qualities that make us play it in the first place.

(*trust me, I've tried it)
(**sarcasticly of course)

Well, the RAT bot is now caught by bw_admin.dll according to Zarjazz. I tried it on an empty server with Trebz and Durzel the other day and it was kicked every time it tried to join.

With a 200 ping it is a very poor relation to the Zbot. In fact I was running round on a listen server whilst both Zbot and RAT were connected as 200 ping clients, and it was only the Zbot that scored a high percentage of hits with the rail.

"lamers would be sworn at till they left servers"

I don't think this would help and would certainly encourage certain individuals to continue acting like knobs. The idea of a fair play site is good in principle but won't make any difference to your average die-hard knob.

I'd say attitudes (the "knobs") and egos (the "must wins") are more of a problem than cheaters at the moment, and those with the attitudes and egos are more likely to piss on a bulleted list of ettiquette tips than conform to it.

For public servers, the first step is to play for fun, not competition.

I would like to say, Barrys lokis server is pretty good, its not half as bad as some of the other public idctf servers, most players understand the basic principles of ctf (unlike some idctf servers ive been on) and are willing to help out when questions are asked.
Ive been playing lokis quite a bit recently, a large selection of maps and a different style of play make a refreshing change from idctf.

it's funny how people claim idctf is more skillful than lmctf....i find loki's bloody hard to play!! esp on barrys as all you guys are just railing my ass off every second :p

hmmm - still gotta the learn the levels though.....can some1 tell me the map cycle on BW so i can go praccy with eraser bot or summat?

another thing......long postings on webboards - don't you just love em?

has anyone ever checked the old webboard btw? i think it's gone completely dead...about time someone got rid of it methinks......
