Buy it from the US?

Places like best buy and walmart all sell laptops, you can use amazon.com as well I suppose. Lots and lots of places, and much better pricing than we get in Euro land.

My cousin bought a lovely Dell lappy from a Best Buy in January, it was about £300 quid cheaper than buying it over here. So I'd say their pricing is reasonable from that experience.

Yeah, you will pay around 25-30% less by ordering local in the states. Thats precisely why, when I go there I have suitcases stuffed with illegal taxable tech on my return journey :)

And how would that work if you got pulled for a random check at Customs?
"Is this your laptop sir?"
"Yes it is"
"It's brand new with a clean install and no user created files"
"Yes, I bought it last week while I was on holiday"

Would they be in their rights to hit you for import duty on it?

Who the hell buys a lappy and doesnt instantly start using it , a week unused in its original packaging , unlikely ;)

Yep, they would, but I have never been stopped on an incoming flight.

Best thing to do is throw away packaging, they don't push too far if it looks like you've used it. They are unlikely to turn it on.

Had three ipods, several laptops, two mac books and ipads from the states in the past few years when I have been on various work trips. It has saved me a small fortune over the past six or seven years.

As an Apple fanboi, it's probably the only way you could have afforded it :p

Well they've got to fund their brainwashing cult somehow, so cheap products at high prices seems like the perfect business model...

I could argue this case again, but it seems pointless really. I know I am right, secretly you know I'm right, gates and jobs get richer and the world carries on turning :)

Gates gave most of his wealth away. 80% I believe, or more. When Jobs gives his fortune to the Gates Foundation, I'll acknowledge that he is not just a cult leader.
