Laptop touchpads

I'm getting a nice new laptop (courtesy of work, haw haw). However, it has an incredibly gay touchpad on it, which I loathe. Short of wallpapering over it, is there an easy way to "unplug" them? Obviously I'll find out when I get it in a week or two, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else had come up with such a madcap plan before...

Comedy options welcome.

Can you not just disable the touchpad in device manager?

I've never really had this problem as my HP laptop has a little button that switches off the pad so you don't tap it while you're typing which is so god damn annoying.

No idea, the laptop's liable to be running multiple OS's, hence my first though was just to "unplug" the hardware.

Hi RedVenom

I doubt you'll be able to physically 'unplug' the touchpad, but it should be listed in the Device Manager (or equivalent) in your operating systems, and so you can just disable it in there. To be quite frank, though, I'd just leave it. With the right drivers, the touchpad can be extremely useful when you're out and about. Just give it go (you can still plug in a mouse without causing any problems with the touchpad) :)

Kind Regards

I read that as: snippers here we come.

Here here, little wires...

Results will be posted when known. Nothing like breaking a few grands worth of laptop within an hour of getting it.

Well, if you're not bothered about your warranty, all I can say is: be careful :)

Worried about warranty? Am I fuck - its works. Anyway, what can't be done from a keyboard usually isn't worth doing...

On my HP laptop, there's a setting in the BIOS that either disables the touchpad when a PS/2 mouse is connected, or runs both at once. But mine has a button to completely disable it.

I suggest you check the BIOS if it can be disabled on yours.

Quite a few laptops ask if you want to disable the touchpad when it detects a USB mouse.

I actually want it permenantly disabled. I have the nippple mouse in the middle of the keys anyway, and if I plug another mouse in that becomes default...

comedy "cut wires" option, here we come.

You prefer the nipple thing? Are you quite, quite mad?

I've done this on a couple of Dell laptops at work without a problem - lift the keyboard and there's a little ribbon connector at the top that comes from the touchpad - just pull it out and no more cursor-hopping nastiness :)

In the context of computers, nipples are not your friend.

Other contexts are unlikely to be discussed in polite company.

Hello

I've just checked my Dell notebook and as Ulysses777 kindly highlights, there is an option in the BIOS to disable the touchpad. Whilst I appreciate not all systems are the same, I'd check your system's BIOS as this, to my mind, would be the best way of disabling the touchpad.

Kind Regards

I prefer nipples, they're far more supple and intuitive than pads. A quick flick will get you anywhere. In purely a computing sense, of course.

Here's hoping that my Dell will be ribbon'd up, and I won't be employing the cutters.

But on laptops they're doing the sucking.

Do you see what I did there?!

When you've all quite finished being so perverse, I believe the answer to this question was posted many moons ago: either disable the touchpad in the BIOS, or, if you must, unplug it.

Kind Regards

My 8100 Dell Inspiron, didn't come preloaded with Synaptics touchpad/stick software. But when I installed it, it allows me to setup all the hot spots on the touch pad etc and disable either the Stick or the Pad, personally I prefer the Pad

Pads are only useful when you're bleeding. Otherwise give me nipples, they'll keep me happy any time.
