laptop light problems

OK, so I turned on my laptop yesterday, and nothing happened. After various things, I eventually figured out that the problem was that the latptop was not giving out any light at all. I can still read parts of the screen by shining a light at it (which is how I'm posting this :p) and as far as I can tell, everything is fine except the light problems.

A normal laptop/computer, if you are in a dark room, shines so you can still read it etc. However, in a completely dark room, my laptop is not giving off any light at all, even though its switched on and displaying normally.

Being rather incompetent with computers and laptops generally, I don't know how to solve this, a better place to look for help or what technical information about the laptop I need to post.

So, any suggestions? :)

The light behind the screen has gone, I guess. Computer repairers or the supplier of the laptoip may be worth a try. It may not be as expensive to repair as the screen itself, which is more normally what gets damaged in my experience.

Alot of laptops have a standard monitor output on them aswell check this out. If the machine is a Toshiba then it almost certainly has this facility. I've seen this numerous times in my work with the screens going dark. We send them off to get a repair quote and this problem usually costs around £70 for the replacement parts/repair, assuming its out of warrenty that is.
