Laptop FDD Error..

I have a Toshiba T4850CT Laptop (It has one of the early Pentiums in it)... anyway, about 2years ago i had the misfortune of dropping the Laptop on my foot.. (Er.. it slipped away from the Base unit.. Pain!) and ive noticed since then each time i boot up the Laptop, it gives me a "NO FDD ERROR" on the MS Dos screen..

When i boot into Windows (98) and try to access the Floppy Drive in there it says says it Cannot be accessed retry etc etc.

Now, my "theory" is that when i dropped the brick on my foot, the Floppy Cable may have come loose... or even better may have smashed the floppy drive into oblivion...

I have never opened up a Laptop before.. so i dont really wanna do it (yet) until i get some heed way on the situation...

Is the laptop floppy drive the same as a PC floppy drive? How much do they cost? etc..

I finally have a purpose for it you see, because im on WinXP the DigiCam i have isnt supported and it looks like there is no new drivers for the DigiCam... The Laptop is on Win98 which does support it.. So basically its gonna be used for the DigiCam...

Opening up a laptop is muchos fun :)

The game arises from remembering where you removed all those screws from :)

Sorry I'm not much help but i'm in a hurry

edit:

Not the same as a desktop floppy... surgery on said laptop is most definitely needed

I run a Dell Laptop, and my keyboard cable comes loose from time to time.
Just flip it upside down, undo the screw on the base, remove the cover and check the cable is seated properly. It's just the same as removing the side panel from a desktop, but ickle.

I still don't see why you need a FDD for it ?

Data transfer can be accomplished through several methods, and on Windows 98 I had yet to encounter software that required install from a FDD.

Look at alternatives to getting stuff on the Laptop; CD, LAN, serial cable, etc.

Well, i want to use the Laptop to Transfer the images from my Digicam, thus meaning the images are now stored on the Harddrive of the Laptop....

So, now i want the images transfered off the Harddrive onto another floppy which will then make its way over to my Main Computer...

If i had a CD Writer for the laptop i would have used it, but neigh i do not, same as with LAN etc etc..

I have removed the back screws but the fucker just wont come....

there is screws on the bottom but to me it doesnt look like they will make the laptop easier to disassemble..

OR..

You could email the piccies to your desktop?

My laptop floppy is external and I can't be arsed using it. So if I have data on the lappy that I need to get to my desktop I email it :)

Well after ripping my thumbs apart, i finally got the keyboard off...

Erm but... when i finally got down to the floppy drive i looked over and noticed a big mess of Laptop Parts... i just didnt have the heart in it to actually sit there again for another few hours to reassemble it...

Thinkin of just keeping stuff like memory (16mb) and hard-drive and CD Rom and just throwin the rest out...

*defeated* :(
