Dress warmer then you plan on dressing, it's -17C around there.

Other then that, nice little place, there's even a strip club called pink lady or something :p

Yeah it's gonna hit -20 during wednesday(which is our independence day btw ;)) and there's plenty of snow, might even snow. It's going to be colder then you expect, no matter what you expect :D

Might want to try this;

Don't know about Lappland, but where i am visiting in Bollnäs, was about -30 C this morning. Most important is wearing warm shoes, layers under your pants and layers under your jacket. And a big ass scarf.

Completely agree... Managed a full day outside last year in -25 due to really good clothes (thermals, good outside trousered and jacket with many layers underneath... It was a really fun day).

Yeap, always forget about doublesocks. To stay alive you ofcourse just need to keep your torso warm :p

Been here a few hours now. Love the place, the snow is perfect and I've gadget loads of fun on the sledges so far.

The sky is clear and I hope I catch the northern lights!

Well I totally loved it, as did the other 6 people that I went with. I will be going again next year.

We stayed in the Christmas Cottages (Ounasvaaran Pirtit to the locals) a few miles outside of Rovaniemi, the place was just magical. The people were all warm and welcoming and they really made my daughter feel special.
Being able to play on sledges all day/night just outside our door was the cherry on top. If I had one complaint, it would be that the bar on the site, was stupidly over priced. They wanted 6 euro for a 330ml can of cider, but you could buy 4 cans for 8-10 euros at the shop 50 yards away, so it wasn't like you were being held to ransom.

Snow was everywhere, and it felt like it was always falling when we were out and about. We walked from Rovaniemi, back to our cottage on the second day, and witnessed an evening Snowmobile tour driving across the frozen river.

The only downside was the lack of the Northern lights, but that was never a guarantee, so it just gives me more of an excuse to go back :)

We were also interviewed on Tuesday by a journalist from Ilta Sanomat and we appeared in the paper yesterday :) Supposedly some tourists who stayed further North than we us were annoyed that Santa had a posh accent, they asked us if we were enjoying our break and I'm assuming that's what the article says :p I bought a couple of copies, as the picture of my daughter was rather cool!

I'd recommend it to everyone!!!

Toh I officially love your country, and I'm going to try and learn a bit of the language for my next trip!

Your gripe about the bar is standard practice for touristy places in scandinavia. In dk you can buy 6 cans of tuborg in a 7/11 for little more than the price of a pint in most city centre bars.
