You can play on english, german and french servers with the french version of the game.
But I think you should play on the french servers, because your english isn't that great.

when you go to the signup screen it's in french

click on the british flag and then go to the 'registration' from the left-hand nav.

You should be able to register in english.

If you bought the French version of the game, some of it will be in French no matter what server you play on. Things like the character creation screen will, I imagine, be in the language of the version you bought. I have a keen on Orcanie, and even there, some things in the game are in English.

There is a way to modify a config file in the game directory to trick the patcher into downloading the english (or french or german) client files to replace the ones you have. Thus you can convert a french client into an english one or vice versa. Unfortunately I don't have the information handy, and I haven't bothered to do it myself - I play mostly on Excalibur but I just left the client in French.

To switch the language of the client open the file update.dat and replace the 3 lines with the word french with english

It only matters in crafting and character chreation. I am using the german version, and weapons like "dirk" are named "Katzbalger". Was a bit irritating at first, but you get used to it. Apart from crafting, you might as well ignore the language thing.
