LAN Game & Maps

I'm new to the Half life game, but recently I've been playing the game on a LAN with my son. When we create a new game there is only a few maps in the list to pick from. I've noticed that there are other maps on the web.

Can any of those maps be used while playing on a LAN connection? We have the GOTY ver. at least that's what we are playing. It took days just to get them to work together, finally after figuring out that the same ver. with differant keycodes on each PC was what was needed it worked. So now we want to try to expand the maps list AND/OR try other mods to make it even more fun.

Anybody, have any interesting idea's of changes that can be made?

Thanks

You sure can! Just make sure that you've downloaded and installed the maps on both computers and then make the map selection from the host computer.

You'll find some here:
http://www.planethalflife.com/csmaps/

Try downloading the map packs as you should get a nice selection

Thanks and How to??

Thanks for the link, plan to do alot of reading. But, since I have you here let me ask what folder do the maps have to be in so that they show while loading a LAN game?

Also, does the CS in csmaps mean Counter Stike or do the maps work for GOTY also.

Thanks

They will work for all versions of CS. Put them in your CS\Maps folder.

Yes they are just counter-strike maps in that link, you can get maps for other mods and HL deathmatch as well.

First things first...

Many maps/map sites on the web include installation instructions. If they don't, then, the following basic instructions apply.

For Half-Life maps:

Most maps are archived in ZIP format. They always contain a BSP file, which is the map file itself, which goes in the sierra\Half-Life\valve\maps folder.

Sometimes maps also include one or more WAD files. These contain extra graphical textures needed by the map. These should be placed in the sierra\Half-Life\valve folder.

Now, in order for another player to automatically download the map files from the player server when that player joins the game, start up Notepad and open the sierra\Half-Life\valve\listenserver.cfg file. Look for the line: sv_allowdownload. It should read: "sv_allowdownload 1" (without quotes). If it's not there at all, type it in at the bottom of the page, then save it.

Anyone feel free to point out any errors/ommisions etc ;)

Yup, if you read the first post, he wants Half-Life maps, not CS maps. :)

I wondered why you were all talking about CS, had to keep re-reading the 1st post; thought I was losing it. CS would be a bit silly with only 2 players:)

Oh, and if you are playing half life you can change the player models as well, so you can run around being a borg or a robot etc; though it wont change anything apart from the way you look to the other player/s.
