Been on list for almost 7 hours as nr 2. As I didnt want to sit on the hill. I was playing an alt, I informed the LK grp 2 that i was gonna play my alt and gave him the name. I was waiting for a call and after waiting for almost 7 hours i found out that he had givin the list to another lk but he hadnt informed him of me playing an alt;(
So here is the point.: if you dont know hav to be a lk dont take the damh job ok.

Are you SB or hunter?
Also, if you are anything but healer, warrior, zerk, shaman, sup runie, and are on the list, chances are that you will never get group.

Many times groups dont change, so expect to be at the same number for ages. Also sbs or hunters if they dont get in at the start of the groups they will never get in, sad but true.

Like it actually is difficult being the LK?

You get a name, class, level - you write it down on a list.
You keep a seperate list for healers/shammys(healing and CC)/RM(pbts)/Supp. SM(if running a pbaoe group) and a list for meele class'
You get pms about position - you tell the position.
You get abuse from some lamer who is to lazy to do anything but nag LK, you ignore him and remove him from list.
Your group needs a person you take first guy on the respective list and take someone down the list if groups need a specific class (and no - I am not mentioning taking somebody futher down cause others are stealthers - all a group needs of meeles is 1-2 tanks to taunt, rest can easily be stealthers).

It is quite easy for a non-healing class (some healers even take list also - that I'm impressed by) to keep up with the input from chat, pm's and what goes on the screen. It is not like this game take massive coordination pushing 2-3-4 buttons while PvEing.

Back when I brought my Thane through lair - I often took the list with him, when I had my SB at H/Lair(g2) I often took list with him. My healer will however not take list because imo it is not a job for a healer/shammy because they need to be much more focused on peoples condition and adds.

If you're sitting with a 20+ people list, and its around 18 pm gmt, you tend to get a bit stressed as LK. All those 20 people are impatient and wondering why they haven't moved more than from #11 to #9 in those 6 hours they been on it, and the people start cropping up on the lair hill and getting the idea of starting a new group... which they ofcourse require the lair list for.

So you end up havin to write out 20+ names, classes, and levels, together with replying the already impatient bunch of people that message you every 20 minutes (or so it seems), while having to function in a group.

Heh, sound easy eh.
I just don't think theres a reason to generalize listkeepers, because sometimes its a really tough job, and the people taking the responsibility while there are many people looking for groups ,sure deseve some credit for it. And NOT whining.

I for one wouldn't message all 20+ people if I had somewhere to go, and the listkeeper duty changed hands, because I had already been forced to type out all 20+ names at least once. This being said, I would ofcourse do that if the list was shorter and it wasn't pure PM hell for you.

I suggest just going to lair at odd times, rather than when everybody else also wants to go there. This solves both the problem of too few camp spots, and extremely busy listkeepers.

Just my 2c, take it or leave it.

I've always contacted all available people on the list when I turned over the list to somebody else. Just a kind of policy I have - it is what I would want from a LK so that is what I give as a LK.

You could always go bash somewhere else too ;)

Get your own group sorted and go xp in Raumarik or in DF if Midgard has control.

You can definitely xp in the new zones in SI and have just as much fun and just as much xp gain too (Iarnvindius Lair for one).

It's just the whole of Midgard seems fixated with the idea that the Lair is THE only place to xp at all once you hit level 40?

I'm quite happy to say I've never been to the Lair other than the attempted dragon raids organised by Aesir's Blade Alliance and as a shaman I get quite a few invites.

People seem to think I must have two heads when I turn them down for a Lair invite but personally I'd far rather have fun getting my character to level 50 than sitting for eight hours straight at the Lair staring at the same mobs.

well being a hunter i tried lair 3 times (I dislike lair, because I think its boring). Now I did get on the list in the morning, but around 13:00 or 14:00 I usually got in. However that isnt so weird as the group that is there at the start, usually sticks together for a long time :). So the hunter/sb jumping isn't that bad actually :).

Typical Diary Entry of a SB in Lair (how it used to be anyway :))

Logged in at Lair hill early in the morning to see groups pulling at stone. Ran over and said 'Hi' and asked if there was a space. No reply. Asked again and was asked abruptly 'class and lvl?'. Told them my level and that I was a SB. After a few minutes I got the reply 'sorry no room'. Proceeded to enquire if there was a list holder. No reply. Asked again, was told to PM 'list keeper's name' for list. PM'd LK and asked if I could get on list. No reply. Waited a little while and asked again, was eventually told 'you're third on list'. I replied that I was logging an alt and would be in touch.

After 2 hours of playing alt, I PM'd LK and asked 'any room yet?'. 'No' came back the replied. 'Where am I on list?' I asked. 'Second or third I think'. Another 2 hours later I make the same enquires and received the same response. 3 hours later LK contacts me (!) and said 'there's a space soon'. 'Thanks, I'll log on my SB now'. Proceeded to log in SB. After 30 minutes of waiting I finally get invited. At last I'm in the group! After 2 pulls, Healers say they're logging. LK states no Healer on list. Some others say they're logging too. Both groups disband.

I then trundled over to the other groups pulling nearby that had formed during the day and asked if there was a space. Was told 'sorry full and there's a looong list too :('.

Went back to hill sat down and logged and began to bang head frequently on desktop.

Hate lair. HATE IT!

But, thats said, early levels in lair as a Hunter suck hard. So hard a golfball could zip through a garden hose @ 60mph.

Anyway, once lv47 getting groups was easier.

Hunter CAN tank very well. Hunter CAN hold agro, and DOESNT eat all healers mana if his/her armour is up to scratch.

Being LK is a piece of pish. Been LK many times, MANY, its not hard. I agree with everything Xandax said re: being LK.

Follow that line of conduct and your life as LK will be breeze. Thats more or less what I did.

Unfortunately, too many people underestimate certain classes usages. SB/Hunter are actually very good, and I find that they are even better in a pbae group. Their high dmg output combined with stun means that not only do they not take dmg, but if a stun fails/wears off, they hold the agro nicely until restun/dead mob.

Let me say again, being LISTKEEPER IS A PIECE OF PISH. Follow your list ffs, keep it neat and short for each class type.

Why do I hate lair? Because of the stupid fecking early morning starts to 'guarentee' yourself a bloody group at some ungodly hour! Hate it! HATE IT!

Make it easier for yourself and be the one starting a new group then?

And Xandax I'm ofcourse being kind and helpful as often as I can, but when I have to log for dinner and thus letting the List switch hands, I don't always have time to message each 20 individuals on it.

Half of them will probably have at least 1 alt char who you might have to msg as well, so writing same message 30 times could take a while.

If its a 10 person list its easier to handle, but again it depends on the circumstances.

And I've only been on list 2 times or so. If there wasn't room when I get there, I proceed with starting up a new group. So I haven't experienced much problems with waiting for groups.

Not saying you aren't kind and helpful. :)
My post were more general directed at all people saying that LKing is a hard job.
I'm saying if you are "nice", being LK shouldn't post a big problem, I've usually had little abuse or very annoying people as LK, and I do truly scripe it to always replying friendly and informative when people ask, and yes even if this means I can only do half damage for an entier pull because I'm answering several enqueries.

And as for logging for dinner and shifting list - you don't know you have to eat, say - 20 minutes in advance? or more? :)
I do understand there are times when you don't have time to tell people you shift list, but it doesn't take more then a couple of minutes (for me anyway) to tell some 20 people that "list have moved to person X instead, and good luck" :) (what takes time is finding another LK)

Luckily I'm a rather fast typer, so that might be why I have little problems with keeping up, but it isn't like lair is sucking out all concentration of a meele type character. All you need to keep your eye on is if there are live targets hitting your healer or casters, and then basically hit what the breaker is hitting.

I wasn't saying it was always a tough job, but from around 18-22 it can be hellish. Thats my experience anyway, maybe you've been there at better times, or are just simply better at coping with 8 hours of lair/listkeeping, and a huge list as well as people messaging you all the time for hours straight.

Who cares anyway, am gonna keep away from these whine threads from now on, not like they solve anything anyway. :)
