Hi, I've had some pretty insane lag today and the same thing is happening more and more often. I'm wondering if anyone can give me any hints on what might be the problem.

First of all, here is a screenie of the pingplot:

pingplot.jpg

I live in a student home with a shared net connection, its two houses using the same connection (9-10 people). Could it be one of them is hogging the line completely and mass down/uploading stuff? Or should I whine at my isp?

I did a full virus and spyware check on both my pc's and they are both clean.

Any help or hints as to what the problem is, or how i can pinpoint the exact problem would be very much appreciated.

maybe your isp's router has had a hickup or something?

happens way too often. :(

agreed with the landlord that if i get this lag again, we'll pull out the connections to everyone until only mine is left and see if the lag disappears. if it doesn't, i guess its safe to say either im secretly mass downloading pr0n or the isp is just fucked

10.x.x.x will be your own internal network thats the other pc's routers and stuff before you even get to your ISP - if its bright read on that step then someones hogging your network.

well, lag started again today so we started pulling out plugs and see if there'd be any improvement. disconnected the first one and lag was totally gone, guess we found the problem. :p

Can be a dodgy card flooding the network, rather than downloads. Looks like you found it if so !

Had the same thing, removed the router that was used to share the internet and only let my PC access the internet and all lag was gone.
Now to hope my roommates don't notice :p

if someone uses torrent or some p2p share shit, then u get a connection like that. torrent hugs all of ur connection even tho it might only use 10% of the speed. dunno how, but thats what happens to me when i use torrent
