Anyone else pre-ordered this? (I'm presuming that's going to be a yes) :)

If so, I'm presuming you've pre-downloaded the demo. Which, according to the valve website, goes live at 9pm on 27th October, for those of us who have.

Which was 1 hour and 18 minutes ago. So where's my fucking game?

Valve fail. Apparently the Xbox360 demo's available? WTF is up with that? I guess PC gaming really is dying :|

Edit: Ah, cheers mabs. Well, I guess I'll have to go to bed. Prolly not a bad idea. :)

PC gaming really is being killed off, it's only a matter of time before mmorpgs start showing up on consoles.

Unfortunately not, FF11 has been out on the 360 for a long time now, and AoC is due out some time next year.

DUST (EVE console variant, promising to say the least, FPS in an MMO world...one world.), Champions online is another i think is coming.

Sad really. Like the news about Modern Warfare only being peer-to-peer.

Nov 3rd that sucks, the reason I pre-ordered from Steam was because I got to play the demo before the masses, I kept checking last night but to no avail.

Maybe I'll buy it when they fix the many bugs on L4D1. Like the almost completely unpredictable boomer bile, or the way a falling boomer can explode 1 inch above your head but not cover you in bile, or the way a survivor can free another from a smoker's tongue with a wave of a gun, or the many other things that make the game woefully unfair for the zombies (although I prefer playign as a zombie on vs).

I was going to pre-order but frankly the discount was pathetic (£3?). I will wait and see what the reviews are like.

The original L4D I found interesting certainly but like the original I waited until it went on offer weekend for a considerable discount.

Did the £80 deal thing on steam, pay £80 for your copy and gift the other 3 to your m8s.

Yup. That's what I did too. It's works out at about a £6 discount so you pay £20.

Personally, I really enjoyed playing L4D with my mates online (and on LAN). We had some fantastic coop as well as versus games - and that warrants pre-ordering it in my mind (even with the bugs and lack of dlc etc).

Boomer bile is entirely predictable but a bit fiddly. There are videos which convert the puke in to little projected lines that make it much easier to see how it works. Getting shot while very close to someone and not covering them is frustrating but can be attributed to lag.

Freeing survivors from a tongue always only needed either a melee attack on them or to kill the smoker/shoot the tongue. I've never really found that it's particularly unfair/unbalanced.

Gotta say, I think the VS balance is pretty decent for the most part. There may be a few glitches that people exploit but on the whole I think they've managed to get it just about right.

It still takes too long to do any damage, you get someone on there own round a corner but do 1 damage cos the other survivors can easily get you before you land a blow.

Well, the smoker takes ages to do damage too. I think that's necessary to keep the length and pace of the game. If they did more damage in less time then it'd make nibbling away at health an effective practice and no team work would be required. People would just attack endlessly and gradually wear down health. They could make spawn delays much higher to counter that, but that'd result in a pretty dull game.

As it stands, the smoker and hunter are pretty useless without coordination or a lucky break. It's only with a decent plan of attack that some significant damage can be done.

It's just not right that you can do more damage with 1 claw than if you actually get someone down, they should at worst be on par. Also smoker is a skillful class, its about timing and hitting the right spot, I wouldn't say the Hunter fits that profile.

It's reasonable that a claw slash does more damage as pouncing on someone is much easier than getting close enough to slash them - particularly without being meleed before you get a chance to hit them.

Also, the smoker is about as useless as the hunter without a decent attack plan. Certainly from my experience, without any sort of tactical approach all you can do is look to exploit a survivors mistake such as running back for that spare medkit without telling anyone.

From savygamer:

The Left4Dead 2 demo is sorta only for people who preorder the game. Or at least, access to it now is, with it opening to the public in 2 weeks time.

However, if you go to gamestation, you can preorder it with no deposit, and no commitment to purchasing it from hem when it does come out. They will give you a card with a serial that you enter into the Xbox marketplace, or Steam, that lets you get the demo now.

Waiting for the team to be biled on or waiting for 3x spawns is the only way to do real damage with it. If you have 2 hunters, especially damage pouncing at the same time on the opposite end of the enemy group (front and back) then you'll do a lot of damage. Add in the smoker as well or a third hunter and someone is going to loose at least half of their health.

I think it's fantastically balanced myself but as with many games, only if you have a team which you know and everybody plays ball. Often I'll sit there waiting for timing rather then attack or even spawn within 30 seconds of appearing and it works very well even if you think you might just have enough time to pounce, then respawn again. It's very biased towards team play so set groups will almost always destroy pubs :(

edit: oh and as for l4d2...

Quite frankly, I'm skint too at the moment and after the balls ups on the first one by valve, I don't think they deserve the full price anyway.

Well I still think the hunter is too slow, the amount of times you could hit someone just before they're at a medkit and you just do no damage is a nightmare!

Being able to "vote" all the time destroys the publics. I've been voted off before for being "shit" despite being the only Zomboid with a score that wasn't 0...

L4D was purchased for £20. I see no reason not to do the same for L4D2.

Oh playing with pub fuckwits ruins the game, I never play a match where I don't have at least one friend on my team. That makes a huge different to the enjoyment of the game.
