BGs

was thinking about how much i hate daoc earlier, and came up with the conclusion that BGs ruined the entire game. the only fun to be had in rvr as a tank was killing loads of blue/green cons while they hacked away at your shins. but now... it suxes coz its all yellow v yellow. no variety.

all BGs did was succeed in splitting up the gaming comunity more than it already was, making it sukeh

I think it began with mythic always raising 1 realm wayyyy up above overpowered and into the "God mode" every other month or so.

I would say its a number of things...

1. RA's... good idea on paper but not very well implemented. IP being my favourite example. Few healer spec to get the 100% instant heals (and even those don't heal 100%, i'm told they work off a healers total HP but i just can't seem to get my HP to 1316 no matter what combo i try)

At the very least they could have put in required realm levels for the skills (I.e. for IP you need FA 2 and RR6+)

2. Spellcrafting... don't get me wrong another great idea, but again it was implemented badly. They should have made the highest tier components drops... or put drops in the SI dungeons that allowed you to raise your armours max imbue points (assuming the starting imbue was lower than current) and of course, my ultimate bitch. 2h weaponary!! are Mythic trying to force everyone to use a shield?

3. Alchemy.. ok, my only real complaint about alchemy is the way in which you have to use pots, the use key ('E' by default) then the button? i can do that but i'd much prefer it to work like MCL... oh and lest we forget, i have to put the pot/totem back into the slot every time i log/zone!

Oh and as sombody mentioned, the way they go too far when implementing class balances.

Classic example is the archer, they added PBT ( + a baseline BT for all casters) while at the same time increasing the fumble/miss rate and adding 'see hidden' (and later detect)

Its a shame really, but then again there are also a lot of good aspects to this game which would make me play it over... say LoM

finding grps of greens and blues without any assassins with them used to be some of the only fun archers could have hehe, funny when a green con tank intercepts a crit shot intended on a blue or yellow caster, they kinda wish they hadnt after

The game is bad because you have to wait 20min for 60 seconds of fun, and sometimes it isnt even 60 seconds. Its a 20 second 1 sided fight.

Not many people will argue that 8v8 is the best type of fight, they need to make these fights more common and more interesting. One FG mezzing another then running in the middle and using pbae till half are dead is not a fun fight, its very one sided and dull, even if youre on the winning team.

There should be some sort of penalty for roaming as more than 1fg. If theres more than 10 friendly chars within XXXX units of eachover then all chars incur dmg/defence/rp/speed penalties which become more severe with the more people there are.

This would have to be changed for keeps obviously but its not my job to solve it.

Also keeps should be easier to take and provide a more noticable benefit. Same with relics. Relics should change hands everyday and not have to be a mammoth event which requires loss of sleep to obtain.

Basically the game moves too slow. The action is too short lived or unfufilling to warrant a 20minute wait.

Oh and planetside is just a phase, its a fun game but little promise or longevity considering youll have to pay.

If this game sucks, its becase its all about numbers.

Number of rps, number of kills, number of xp, levels, and stats.
It miss the roleplay enviroment that for example eq have, but have replaced it with rvr. I think the game sucks more and more since they no longer have rvr as a part of the game, but they have the game as a part off rvr. Drops no longer matter, the quest items from si + spellcraft > all. There is nothing called rare drop in the game (compare with for example eq, you can basically get any item you want here fairly easy)

We only have 1 mob that actually is exciting to kill on share in all three realms, and that is the hib dragon. Now i assume even it will be slaughtered on weekly base, and with it the last part of daoc as a a rpg. Rvr is the main fun in daoc without any doubt, but it sucks they remove/weaken the other aspects. I fear daoc will have weaker days when future rvr based games that can provide excitment again, case few things is new to us anymore.

i think its just that every game gets boring after a while. You have seen everything done everything :). Off course the new stuff mythic adds keeps you interested a little bit (atleast for me), but in the end the game stays the same.
The inbalances off course suck, but every game has those and allthough i find them irri it isnt that bad it ruins the game for me. The zerging is something that does ruin the game though, but SC and alchemy dont think they destroyed the game nor actually harmed it. Allthough people might be little greedier now. It did ruin pve, so maybe in the end the game aswell :). But they corrected that partially with getting uber drops in the SI dungeons :).
So in the end I think this game just sucks mostly because its getting boring as every game in the end gets if you played it to much.

The augment line of realm abilities was a good idea, like the mastery of skill line. The active realm abilities are too powerful though. Spellcrafting is too powerful (compromise = "hmm, looks like I'll have to leave this resist 3% from cap"). Not a good idea.
And like chuffy says, everything takes too long (10 mins to get to odins on hastener speed).

Archeon was dead on with what he said. I personally believe RvR started dying in fun when they introduced Realm abilities. I find it grossly unfair that an even level ie 50 cannot beat another enemy of the same level because they have played longer and are several realm ranks above them. Its not really a reflection of the skill of a player. Now because they have a hard time with these the natural reaction is then to go in greater numbers and the zerg escalates.
Not even starting with the buff bott phenomena. But people underestimate how much spellcrafting has hurt some classes, ill use my own for example a minstrel, the DD and stun being our strenght has virtually been rendered useless with the high levels of resists possible. This is true for alot of classes.

i still enjoy the game but im having to move on to other realms and classes to do it now.

but that aside, yeah the BG's are just one of many badly implemented ideas (like RA's). before you used to get level 15 newbies going out into emain all worked up thinking they could help (this was BEFORE they even removed the level-to hit modifiers), and they would actually see even con enemies to fight too, now its all yellow with the very occasional blue (though not now with the utterly idiotic 35+ coning yellow system).

And now some people just level endless alts to play in the BG's and nothing else.

I actually think the BGs were a good idea. It was ok going RvR at lower levels before, but there are so many 50s now it wouldn't be the same as it used to be.

Well one thing is good with bg also. Say if you play a char up to bg and see what fun it can be to play this and you try a even higher bg. Finally the last bg at 35. then you decide to go to 50 with it. :) Cause this was a fun char

But ra and spellcrafting have destroyed the fun actually. But to take the mistrels advice. the same goes for skalds with dd's and mez and even snare is the protecting a skald have. with sc it just sucks. you cast a spell you hit for 138(-150) and the mez that last shorter due to deter. you snare and try to run away if you see the spell is resisted and you find your self eating dirt.

BGs are great......I mean....remember when u had to get all the way to 40-50 to go RvR....at least now u can take lots of little breaks from exping and go pawn some other ppl :)

There is a kind of penalty for zerging...u get crappy crappy rpoints, inbetween 1 to around 75 per personal that gets killed. Emain is to zergy, odin is a nice place to 1fg vs 1 FG, and breif too.

RA...well...its kind of fair to stick out amon other players if you have RvRed much more, aint very fair for a n00b 50 to beat the crap out of a experienced guy...

The new archers stuff kinda sux though

The only thing that sux is that BW keeps track of how many posts youve done so you keep on postin this crap.

DAOC is great. Games change and evolve. Live with it.

Developers always satisfy the many... not the few... get it or delete. Period.

Have you ever visited Mythic's site?

It is more likely Mythic will penalise those who travel in 1FG tbh.

Though we all like small unit combat, it is not what Mythic want and not what they are aiming for. Instead, expect more and more 'adjustments' to RvR in terms of tougher Guard patrols etc until travelling as a FG becomes impossible.

It is Mythic's game and they dictate the design goals. If players don't like it, why are they playing? There are plenty of team games out there to move to.

Enjoy the small FG fights when they occur because they are great fun...just realise that 1FG vs 1FG is not the design goal of this game and never will be. That's why they called it RvR.
