Kinect is totally uninspiring and far too expensive. MS have really fucked up in the face of the much cheaper PS move, which seems to have far better support in terms of games as well.

Both are pure gimmicks though, as the Wii shows.

It looks amazing when they feed you the bullshit, but people either sit on a sofa barely moving their wrist to play, or just have a control system which does not match the potential of the hardware.

As a device the Kinect seems fine to me but I've read it needs you to have a lot of floorspace because the ideal play distance from the device is a good couple of meters for an adult.

Personally, I have little interest in body-control/controllerless games so it matters very little to me.

Problem is; this is the second generation already

The reason they make sh*t games for these type of things, is rather simple;

Forced gimmick and forced launch.

You "have" to use the gimmick and as such, you're forced to certain choices. Mainly gameplay design going out the window because "While that's an innovative way for the character to move, it's not gimmicicky". So you're left a bit under the mercy of the gimmick, which, to be fair, sucks. For example the PS dildo thing; why do they force it in FPS when FPS works just fine? Beacuse it's the gimmick.

Forced launch on the other hand is the other problem. They need to get a product out there on launch and because they have to make a demo of the gimmick thing JUST to sell it to producers, it's mostly based around that too.

Or it's ordered by "bi moeny", in which case there's not one game designer calling the shots. Suits making games equal sh*t games.

Had a go on Dance Central last night, pretty fucking good and kids love it. Real shame that alot of the other launch titles are turgid shite but it could still be a great product for the mainstream, I don't see the hardcore gamers anywhere near it though as it just isn't accurate enough for the type of games they play i.e. FPS.
