Well I'm coming back to play now after a while away, so I've pretty much forgotten the controls, so it's a good time for me to dump the old crappy setup I had (nearly same as the defaults) and move to something more decent..

so, including whatever funky new keys I'll be needing for toa stuff, what are some good control set-ups that people use/would recommend?

If you're used to the FPS setup, WASD works well. I can't remember most of my keyboard setup out of game, but when I'm playing I know which keys to hit(mostly oO)

WASD - movement
Q/E - Strafe
Z - Sprint
X - Sit
C - Stick
F - Face
R - Reply (need to change this, it's the worst thing when you hit 'R' by mistake and "/send someone dw23wwwwwf21dwwad111" )

Those're the most used keys for me, so I keep them close and easy to access.

WASD for moving.
Q=Nearest enemy
F=Face
C=Stick
V=Target group member #8
Space= Camera toggle
Alt= Mouse toggle
Right mouse= strafe toggle.
E=Use
B=Sprint
R=Reply (like Seksual said, could be wise to change it ;))

Worked well for me :p

I use:

WSAD: moving
QE: strafing
C: sit
X: sprint
< (left side of Z, if it's not same there on all keyboards): jump
FV: view up/down
B: reset camera
R: face
T: stick
Shift+T: follow
Shift+R: reply (problem solved:))
G/H: 1h, 2h
F1: last attacker
F2: nearest enemy
F3: nearest ally
N: walk

Think those are the most important.. Basically it doesn't matter what keys of those you use for what as long as you got the important stuff near moving keys :)
Also depends of your playstyle. I want to have all important things near to left side of keyboard because I never use quickbar buttons with mouse. Also I pan my camera all the time and want to reset it (and after reset I have to tilt it up...bing on the patch with saving camera position).

If i want total control u need to do this (im only talking moving and viewing here)

w - forward
s - backwards
a - left strafe
d- right strafe

Right mouse botton - mouseview

That will give u a really fluid control of ur moving and looking around.

If u are used to arrows moving and then having two bottons for cam up/down and another two for stafing this might be confusing at starters, but its worth it, by far. What u do is that u use the mouse view (rightclick) to turn (saving two bottons) and view (saving another two) u dont want perma mouse view, cuz that makes u unable to target stuff probally

q run lock
e attack mode
f nearest enemy target
x look center - important after cam scrolls
½ camscroll
v sprint
c sit/stand

Edit: Rightclick Scroll in/out for zooming cam

I would personally not use ASDW to move about SDFE or DFGR makes more sense - you have more keys on both sides to play with :) Puts your pinky finger to more use \o/

Agree. I've been thinking about switching to that but it might result in some embarassing stuff at first.. :)

Defaults here, keep saying I will switch to DFGR but I have never taken the plunge. After 2 years it is damn hard to break old habits. :)

Using WSAD in FPS or DAoC? Eeew!

Just remember you can swap from 1H to 2H slots on the keyboard now ;)

F1 - Sprint
F2 - 1h weapon
F3 - 2h weapon
F4 - ranged weapon
F5 - last attacker (usefull in keeptakes and ToA to find that damn archer that is shooting you)
F6 - nearest friendly

WSAD - movement
Q - attack mode
E - nearest enemy
F - face
R - reply
T - torch
Y - sit
\ (next to Z) - jump
X- up (needed for underwater)
C - down (needed for underwater)
V - autorun
B - select loot
G - get loot
H - quick sell
shift-H - destroy
U - use
Shift-U - use2
ctrl - mouselook (hold ctrl and use mouse for direction movement, mainly up/down and mousewheel for zoom)
alt - centre camera
Z - camera toggle (hold Z and A or D to rotate camera while on stick/autorun etc)
` (top left next to 1) - set groundtarget

strafe I don't tend to use much, set to arrow keys.

Seems to work for most situations: tank, caster or bard in rvr or pve.

Used to have sit bound to C (better spot for it), but needed somewhere to put 'down' with ToA, as didn't have it bound previously.

I use:

WSAD for movement
QE = strafe
Z = sit
X = jump (very important!!:eek:)
C = Reset Camera
V = Combat Mode
< = Use Item
R = Auto Run
T = Ground Target
H = Last Attacker
CTRL = Next Mob/Invader
ALT = Sprint
Space = Stick
Ø = For Torch :p

Pan Camera Button at Mouse Button 3 and Mouse Look and Mouse Button 2, allows for easy panning :|

This is easiest on my hands and works like a charm for me.
Precious hands also used for wanking, must keep them fit.

Thanks for all the replies, was back ingame yesterday for the first time, and tried out a new set-up, after having trouble even moving forwards for the first hour I think I'm getting used to it now, and should be a bit better than when I was in hib and still using f8 to target, arrow keys to move :p only thing is I couldn't find a convenient place for the pick-up loot keys :< need to get em better cos atm I can't move properly while collecting loot lol :p
