Not that kind of earfull, no one made my ear a supository for mancream...more like the "bla bla judge judge" kind.

Anyway, this whole thing started outside.

I was having a smoke with some co-w's.(co-workers).

Another co-w came along and said along the lines "Ah, smokers club in session eh?"

I replied "You should start too, it's great!"

Well, for some reason he went "ballistic" and judged me from head to toe for suggesting smoking etc.

I answered; "Well, have you ever told someone to quit? Same deal. I'm going to spread the word of the greatness that is smoking!"

More rabble and a huffed exit from ze area.

He doesn't like me very much i think :D

I think it's the same bloody deal really, telling people what to do. I jsut find it funny as it was a light hearted joke and not a real judgment on this non-smoker.

I think you're in the right. In all fairness, you can't expect an Atheist to go into a church and then lose your temper when they ask you to join.

Maybe that's not the best analogy, but you know what I mean.

Do you have a "smoking area" when you're outside?

Not really, just outside.

We don't have that strict smoking laws yet, anywhere outside = goes.

I think the biggest problem is suggesting something people know is not exactly healthy, though in the grand scale, it's as much butting in as the other.

even if you are outside, a large group of smokers might disturb people who are not currently smoking - at the front door of lecture halls for example we always have like 20 people smoking, and when i dont have a cigarette in hand that im smoking, the huge cloud of smoke stationary around the front door is enough to disturb me, a smoker.

but then again, its a different topic, since the person you made the joke with has no sense of humor and is probably a hypocrite regarding something else. most people are.

True, i keep a polite distance to non-smokers, try to avoid being in big groups, take a distance from and especially from women with carriages and try to hide my cigie when walking if young kids walk towards me.

It's just easy politeness, but i do believe i have the right to try and sell smoking to people since they're always selling their "smoking bad" reasoning :D

Nothing wrong done...whenever I've had similar situations I just giggle like a child as they're saying something. I know it's childish but it winds them up a lot more then arguing it :)

You watched 'Thank you for Smoking' by the way? Interesting film :)

Sounds like an uptight twat to me. You're deffo in the right, and I thought iw was quite a witty retort actually. Try a billboard when you go on a break next time - we must promote the joys of smoking!! Then you'll actually give him something to get in a huff about.

Any non-smokers who goes outside into an area where smokers congregate and then get upset because of something a smoker says or makes a snide comment about probably getting cancer from passive smoking should just SHFU and go stand up wind - or piss of round the corner where the smoke / smokers won't bother them.

But i too agree with you Toht. I dont smoke, but i dont have a problem with those who do, and i would never chastise(sp) someone for doing it either

The smoking ban humors me.

It was brought in to protect nonsmokers, so smokers(like me0 have to go stand outside like lepers.

the funny bit is, you now have non smokers going outside with their mates and end up standing outside!

Think its mainly due to alot of smokers selfrightousness. Lets say like what happened this morning, it was pouring down, about 10 people stood under the roof waiting for the bus, and along comes a smoker walks into the middle of us and start puffing away. Or all smokers that just has to stand outside different mainentrances. Or their smelly clothes, or like some smokers do put a half smoked cig back into the package and leave it there to smell etc etc etc etc. I dont mind people smoking just aslong as the dont take my personal space away.

That goes for anything.

Baby carraiges, smelly clothing, sweaty people, fat people on busses etc.

People are rude, but smoking doesn't make you rude ;)

Thats the real issue isn't it.

But smokers' clothes smell. Thats someting you have to just accept. Just like sitting next to someone on public transport who hasn't washed in a week, or doesn't use deodorant, or has smelly hair, or the music from someone's headphones is escaping and annoying the hell out of you, or people who cough all the time...the list is endless

A lot of smokers realise its anti-social and will go out of their way not to bother others. But there are always some people who just don't care, and like with the guy at the bus stop, what are you going to do ? Say something to him ? If he tells you to do one, then what ?

smokers live in bliss tho,
the truth is, even if they know, they dont know exactly how bad!
to them it's just..smoke, it dosent smell bad, to a none smoker or even worse an ex-smoker...that stuff is the living hell.

so the next time you see a guy lighting up near you, give him a brake,
and just be polite about it, you'd be suprised how many will react positivly to your request "as long as you dont seem bitchy about it"

the problem with this is that the co-wanker sounds like one of those people who say in a joking way what they really mean seriously, he is most likely pissed off that you get smoke breaks and he doesnt, plus he is a cock who no one likes and is jealous because you are actually talking to other people and he isnt in on the conversation

peiople like him made baby jesus cry, they are nostly arse lickers............
